This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 23rd February

Week beginning: 23rd February
Nursery
Our focus topic this half term is "The Rain Forest" . We are exploring the different habitats found in the jungle and meeting the animals that live there. From colorful birds in the trees to creepy-crawlies on the ground, we’re learning all about who lives where!
Reception
In Reception Class we are going to learn about some dinosaur facts, their habitat and what they ate. The children will begin to explore the difference between a herbivore, carnivore and an omnivore and which dinosaurs walked the Earth.
In maths we will continue grouping and sharing recognising the connection between sharing and grouping and solve practical problems.
Please continue to read daily with your child and remember to return all reading books by Wednesday of each week.
As a whole school policy we are supporting the children with correct letter formation. Please continue to support them at home. If you need further assistance please let us know.
Year 1
First week back, in Maths, Year 1 will be measuring and comparing different objects , length and height, using non-standard units. In English, we will be reading The Storm Whale and using adjectives to describe senses and writing main clauses to describe a setting. Please sign the Reading Records everyday and phonic books are changed every Thursday. Maths homework and spellings will be sent home on a Friday and due back the following Thursday. Thank you for your continued support.
Year 2
In English, we'll be introducing a new book called 'We're going to find a monster'. In Maths, we'll be going on to fractions and finding fraction of amounts.
On Friday 27th February, Year 2 will be having a wow day all about nurses. This will introduce the children to our topic for the term.
Year 3
Welcome back!
In English, we are going to look at using adverbs in our writing to help us describe how something is being done.
In Maths, we are going to recognise the place value of three digit numbers.
Our History topic is 'Stone Age' and our Science topic is 'Plants'.
Year 4
This week, year 4 will be continuing to practise using speech punctuation and incorporating this into our writing. We are being especially careful to make sure that we are remembering to include punctuation before closing our speech. In maths we are going to continue to use the four operations to answer arithmetic questions, and are going to look at how we can apply this to solving questions involving bar charts.
Year 5
This week in Year 5, we are using all four operations in our maths lessons. We will be using these skills to find fractions of given amounts and to calculate percentages. In English, we will be investigating how our choice of vocabulary changes the atmosphere of our writing and creates an image in the mind of the reader.
Year 6
This week, in year six, we will be starting our new text - The Watertower. The children will be making comparisons between the two main characters in the book. This will be through their appearance, traits and personality. We will be developing our understanding of using the passive and active. In maths, we will be looking at using formulas and algebra. This term also sees us starting our new history topic on WW2.
