This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 16th March

Week beginning: 16th March
Nursery
This week in Nursery, we are diving into the meaning of Easter through storytelling. We are also thrilled to announce a very special visit! Two police officers will be joining us to chat with the children about how they help the community and keep us safe .It’s going to be a week full of reflection and curiosity.
Reception
This week in Reception Class we will continue to look at Life Cycles and concentrate on the life cycle of a plant, exploring what a seed needs in order for it to grow into a strong plant. The children will have the opportunity of planting their own sunflower seed and will take it home at the Easter break to nurture and care for it. We would love to see some photos of how big they will grow,
In maths we will be consolidating our learning on number patterns within 15. Please support your child at home to count up to 15 objects and place them in order, to know what is one more than a number within 15 and add some numbers within 15.
A reminder that we have a whole school trip to the church in the morning for our Easter service on Thursday 19th March and on Friday 20th March we will be supporting RED NOSE day, children can wear red for £1.
Please continue to read with your child daily and return ALL books every Wednesday.
Year 1
This week in Maths, Year 1 will be finding one more/less and one ten more/less than any given number. In English, we will be writing a diary entry using emotive language and conjunctions to join ideas. PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Please sign your child's Reading Record every day. Phonics books will be changed on Thursday. The whole school will be visiting the local church on Thursday. Thank you for your continued support.
Year 2
In English we will be introducing the 'when' conjunction and continuing our 'We're going to find a Monster' book.
In Maths we will be moving on to measurements.
On Thursday 19th March the whole school will be going to church for an Easter service. On Friday 20th March we will be celebrating Red Nose Day.
Year 3
In English, we are going to look at Imperative verbs.
In Maths, we are going to look at Measure.
On Thursday 19th March, it is the whole school Church visit.
Year 4
This week in maths, Miss Wigfield's group will be continuing to practice using the bus stop method to divide any number by a one-digit number. Mrs O'Brien's group will be learning all about fractions, using the bus stop method to find a fraction of a number. In English, we will be finishing our Africa travel brochures before moving on to narrative writing.
Year 5
This week in Year 5 we are continuing our work around the book 'Anglo-Saxon Boy'. Writing a narrative using the skills we have learnt in Year 5 so far: fronted adverbials, conjunctions (coordinating and subordinating), parentheses marked with brackets, dashes and commas, relative clauses and powerful vocabulary. In maths we are using coordinates to plot and translate shapes on a grid.
Year 6
This week, we will be having a mini mock SATs week on Tuesday and Wednesday morning in maths. In English, we will use short sentences for impact, varied sentence openers and relevant speech to move the action along. During history, we will be learning about the different ways the citizens of the UK protected themselves from German air-raids. Don't forget to pay for your child's trip to Chislehurst Caves.
