This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 4th May

Week beginning: 13th April
Nursery
In nursery this week we will be exploring Oral Health through hands-on play and discovery! From scrubbing our "Giant Mouth" to develop fine motor skills, to testing the effects of different drinks in our Egg Shell Experiment, the children are learning exactly why we wash that sugar away. We will be doing a Two-Minute Timer Challenge to help the children understand just how long a perfect brush takes. It's all about building healthy habits and happy smiles!
Reception
In Reception we will continue our topic on pollution but look closer and how we can do this, for example. reuse scraps of paper, save water eg turn off the tap whilst brushing their teeth. etc.
In maths we will be securing addition and subtraction, to add by counting two groups and exploring subtraction as partitioning into two sets and as a take away.
At home please continue to do this using any appropriate resources such as dried pasta, pencils bricks. You can revisit the number robot game on Top marks info we sent to you previously.

Year 1
This week, in Maths, Year 1 will be investigating the capacity and volume of different containers. We will also be practising telling the time to an hour, half past, quarter past and quarter to. In English, we will be continuing with the book Lost and Found. We will be writing main clauses using adjectives and conjunctions. PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Phonic books will be changed on Thursday.

Year 2
This week in Maths, we will be focusing on solving two-step word problems and finding fractions of amounts.
In English, we will be creating our own fact files all about ladybirds.
Our class ladybirds have now reached the third stage of their life cycle, known as the ‘pupa’ stage. There is just one more stage to go before they become adult ladybirds!
Year 3
In English, we are going to write a recount of our story about an expedition to a volcano. We are going to group our ideas into paragraphs and we will also be including speech in our writing.
In Maths, we are going to look at volume/capacity and also perimeter.
Year 4
This week year 4 are going to be writing news reports about the Artemis 2 mission. We are concentrating on using fronted adverbials to express time and place within our writing. In maths, Mrs O'Brien's group will be practicing telling the time, converting between analog and digital with 24- and 12- hour clocks. Miss Wigfield's group will be working to perfect our methods for calculation with the four operations, including solving problems with more than one step.
Year 5
This week in Year 5 we are practising our arithmetic skills using our calculation knowledge to identify the most efficient strategy to solve a variety of real-life problems.
In English, we are learning to use rhetorical questions within our writing and will be conveying a character's thoughts and feelings through our word choices.
Year 6
This week, we will be considering varied punctuation and layout for effect. We will be writing a diary and a letter both of which will focus on use of empathy and emotion. In science, we will be exploring and then explaining the different functions of blood. During our computing lessons, we are working on our mouse and keyboard skills.
