GraysGenericNew23

Week beginning: 11th May

Nursery

In nursery we are continuing to  keep those smiles bright  as we dive deeper into Oral Hygiene! The children will be comparing how many teeth they have compared to adults and learning the "why" behind losing their milk teeth. We are also taking our theme outdoors to Forest School—we'll be comparing different leaf shapes and getting creative with nature by creating a mouth and using stones for the teeth.

Reception

This week in Reception Class we will be learning how to help look after our planet by remembering the 3'Rs  Reduce. Reuse and Recycle. Through stories and activities and creative play , the children are learning simple ways they can make a big difference every day. such as putting recyclable items in the correct bins, using scraps of paper for drawing and writing, only take what you need.

In maths we will be looking at number patterns within 20 e.g be able to count up to 20 objects and place them in order. To be able to find one more and one greater than a number within 20 and to be able to find one fewer and one less than a number within 20.

Please ensure that you continue to support your child with the maths as above.

If you need support please let us know.

Year 1

This week, in Maths, Year 1 will be looking at and discussing the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.  In English, we will be writing an information text on animals that live in the Antarctica, linked to our Geography topic.

PE days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Phonic books will be changed on Thursday.  Thank you for your continued support.

Year 2

This week in Maths, we will be focusing on geometry, exploring direction, shape, and lines of symmetry.

In English, we will be learning about the conjunction “that” and how to use it correctly in sentences.

Our class ladybirds are now in the third and fourth stages of their life cycle. We currently have both pupae and adult ladybirds, and some of the ladybirds will be released later this week.

Year 3

In Maths, we are going to look at bar charts. Children will complete their own survey and present their data using a table to record it. Then, they will present it as a bar chart. Towards the end of the week, we are going to solve one and two- step questions ('How many more?' and 'How many fewer?') using information presented in scaled bar charts, tables and pictograms.

In English, we are going to use expanded noun phrases to add more details to our writing.

Year 4

In year 4 next week, we are going to be working extra hard in preparation for our fast approaching Multiplication Tables Check. It is so important that we are practicing our tables up to 12x12 every night at home to help us achieve our best possible scores when we sit the test in June. We can practise using Times Tables Rockstars or by using the U R Brainy MTC practice website. In English, we will be taking a break from our non-fiction writing to revisit the purpose and function of paragraphs and think about how paragraphs can help us to organise our narrative writing.

Year 5

This week, Year 5 has been lucky enough to borrow some speed cameras. We will be using these in our maths lessons to create a data set, make informed decisions on how to display our findings and  interpret our findings.  In English, we will be finishing our unit of writing around the short film, Alma, using all of the skills we have learnt and marking our clauses and parenthesis with commas, brackets and dashes.

Year 6

It's SATs week next week and we are all systems go. Good luck to all of our amazing children! We are so proud of how hard they have worked! Look forward to seeing everyone for breakfast club at 8:15am.
