Week beginning: 22nd June

Nursery

Bringing the seaside to Nursery! This week  we are exploring the magic of rock pools and beaches. We’ll be investigating habitats, observing how the tides work, and sorting shells by shape and texture. Ask your child tonight: “Why do crabs hide under rocks?”

Reception

This week in Reception Class, we will be learning about under the sea: Pirates and Mermaids. We will be looking at different aspects of being a pirate and mermaid, for example: learning pirate shanties, writing messages in a bottle, living on a ship or the ocean. On Friday we will be having a pirate day where the children can dress up as a pirate or mermaid.

In maths we will be continuing to explore the value of coins and the combination of coins for a given total up to 10p and 20p and to give change from ten pence.

Please ensure you practise letter formation at home in preparation for the children moving up to year 1. Please remember to read with your child and please return reading folders on Wednesday. Thank you for your support.

Year 1

Next Week is test week and the children will be completing maths and english tests.  PE days are still Tuesday and Wednesday.  Please sign your child's Reading Record every day.  Phonics books will be changed on Thursday.  Wednesday is Beach Trip.  Please ensure your child has a packed lunch and water.  They can bring buckets and spades and money to buy an ice cream.

Year 2

Next week is test week! 

We will have English and Maths tests. In English we will be retelling the story of Pip the Guidedog. 

Please ensure your child is reading everyday and their reading record is signed. Homework is due every Friday.

Year 3

In Maths, we are going to recap all the new methods that we have learnt this year and how we can use them to solve the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

In English, we are going to look at the features of a newspaper article and we will write one about our Sports Day.

Year 4

Next week, year 4 are excited to complete their final NTS papers of the year to get a chance to show off all of the amazing progress they have made. Year 4 we are so proud of how hard you have worked this year, well done! In our writing this week, year 4 will spend most of the week writing our own fairytales. We will be applying our learning of suffixes, speech punctuation and expanded noun phrases to construct amazing writing.

Year 5

This week in Year 5 we are solving are reading word problems, identifying the operation required and using our arithmetic skills to check our answers. In English, we are comparing facts and opinions and will be searching for facts in prepartion for a non-ficiton piece of writing. 

Year 6

This week in year 6 we will be continuing our learning on Emily Davison, working out whether she was in fact a hero or a trouble maker. In Science, we are continuing to research famous scientists. And production is now in full swing and music is being added. Watch this space.
