This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 28th April
Week beginning: 28th April
Nursery
This week in nursery the children will be using their imaginations and going on an exciting Journey with Jack to the faraway isle of Blowyernose.........
They will be using their problem solving and critical thinking skills to create Jack a boat out of our large construction resources, looking at the size and shape of the materials.
Reception
In reception class this week we shall be learning about the life cycle of the bee. Children are naturally curious about the world around them - and learning about the life cycle is a great way to explore nature, science and the importance of insects in our environment.
In maths the children will continue to learn the important maths concepts that help them to make sense of the world. Measure and capacity are key parts of early maths that help the children explore and talk about size, capacity and volume within our provision.
Please continue to read daily with your child and check out tapestry for further updates.
Year 1
This week in Maths, year 1 we will be using number lines to add and subtract 1 and 2 digit numbers. In English, we will be reading the book "Tilda Tries Again" and planning and writing a diary entry. Please remember that PE days are Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure that your child reads every day and the Reading Record is signed by an adult everyday and brought into school everyday. Phonics books will be changed on Thursdays. Thank you.
Year 2
In English, we are going to look at a new book 'Winston of Churchill- One Bear's Battle Against Climate Change' linked to our Geography topic for the next two weeks. We are going to use expanded noun phrases to make our writing more interesting. We are going to talk about persuasion and how it can impact our writing.
In Maths, we are going to use the expanded column method to add. We are going to use Dienes (practical resources) to help us understand how to bridge 10 before we get into the written method.
Year 3
This week in Year 3, we will be solving problems involving all four calculation operations using a variety of mental and written strategies. In English, we are practising our editing skills, identifying errors and making improvements to anonymous pieces of writing. In Geography, we will be looking more in depth at the layers of the earth and learning about the movement of tectonic plates.
Year 4
It was lovely to see so many children and families back after the break. We had a great start to summer term and it was nice to catch up with many of you after school. We have launched into our topics in R.S.E., Science and Geography and this week start to go more in depth about power of water, digestive system and other body parts. This half term is our big push for the times tables check in June so please do get in as much time on TTRS at home as possible. We want to win our next competition! Thank you for those who have brought in homework projects already - it's lovely to see the work you're producing together as a family.
Year 5
In Maths, we are revisiting the areas of calculation we have taught previously and we will be applying these in different contexts.
For our English learning, we are continuing to write descriptions and edit our work.
Year 6
With only two weeks until our SATs, we are continuing with our revision in reading, maths and SPaG. In writing, we are continuing with our writing on creating tension and suspense. Later in the week, we will be looking at the skills needed to write an online news feed. In PE, we will be developing our understanding of working as a team to complete tasks. In History, they will be exploring the impact that evacuation during WW2 had on children, their families and the host families.
