This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 5th May
Week beginning: 6th May
Nursery
This week in nursery the children will be using their imagination and going on a train journey through the town and countryside. They will be encouraged to make their own train out of our construct resources, thinking about the shapes and seeing if they can combine two shapes to make a new one.
They will also continue to practice their phonic sounds.
Reception
This week in Reception Class we will be exploring Pollution and the impact it has on our environment. The children will be involved in lots of fun and meaningful activities as we commemorate VE Day. Children are invited to wear red white and blue to school on Thursday. In maths we will be looking at odd and even numbers and using supportive resources to embed learning.
Please continue to read with your child every day. Thank you
Year 1
Year 1 will be going to the River Cray on Wednesday 7th May so please remember to wear comfortable shoes. In Maths, Year 1 will be using repeated addition to solve multiplication problems and repeated subtraction to solve division problems. In English, we will be reading the book 'Lost and Found' - a story about friendship. We will be sharing ideas about what you would see in the South Pole (linked to Geography) and sequencing the story. Please remember to sign your child's Reading Record every day, once you have read with them. Phonics books will be changed on Thursday. PE days are Tuesdays and Fridays. Thank you for your continued support.
Year 2
In English, we are going to plan and then write a recount of the story of Winston, the polar bear using all the skills that make our writing more interesting.
In Maths, we are going to solve subtraction number sentences and world problems.
Year 3
This week in Year 3, we are using our calculation skills to solve problems that include units of measure. We will be learning how to convert our measurements to find the total perimeter of a polygon and will be reading measurements from scales. In English, we are writing instructions and will be empathising with a character from our new class book. We are very excited to be learning about volcanoes in geography and we will be using some scientific skills to make our own, working volcano.
Year 4
Year 4 this week are looking further into the digestive system in science and looking at the effects of water damage - ironic considering the weather. Please remember hats and sunscreen alongside the usual water bottles. This is especially helpful as it means we may occasionally get to do some of our learning outside in the shade like some of us did this week. We are looking forward to our V.E. day celebrations on Thursday (including dressing up for those who so desire.)
Year 5
In English, Year 5 are continuing to write descriptions by choosing appropriate and ambitious language. We will also be using our editing skills that we have been developing.
In Maths, Mrs Adam's/Mrs Gold's group are revisiting fractions. Miss Gillies' group will also be finding percentages of amounts.
It is VE day this week so we will be learning about what VE day is and how it was celebrated in 1945.
Year 6
With the SATs coming the following week, we will be revising at every opportunity.
In English, we will be writing in the role of a child in WWII, who has just been evacuated and has met their host family for the first time.
During our History lesson, we will be looking at what was meant by rationing and the impact this had on families and the country.
