GraysGenericNew23

Week beginning: 3rd June

Nursery

This week in nursery we will be extending the children’s interest in bugs and looking at where they live. We will be developing our bug hotel looking at different materials to add to it and which works best.

We will also be looking at patterns in our environment, both indoors and outdoors.

Reception

This week we shall be using our story of “Fatou fetch the water” to learn about life in Africa. We will be looking at similarities and difference between where we live and the Gambia.
In maths we will be revisiting number bonds to and within 10.
Please ensure all payments are made via the gate way for our mini beast experience. Thank you.

Year 1

Welcome back!  Hope you had an enjoyable half term.  This week, in Maths, Year 1 will be working on Place Value and ordering 1 and 2 digit numbers from smallest to largest.  In English, we will be reading the Paperbag Princess and making a Missing Poster to help look for the Prince.  We will be introducing homophones to the children and writing main clauses including these.  Please read with your child every day and sign their Reading Records every day.  Phonics books will be changed on Thursdays.

Year 2

In Maths, we are going to interpret and present data in graphs, bars and pictogram charts.

In English, we are going to use all of our skills to write main clauses. We will use different sentence starters and expanded noun phrases to make our writing more interesting.

In History we are going to learn about Eltham Palace and its medieval background. In Science, we are going to learn about what we need to survive.

Year 3

This week in Year 3, we are looking forward to starting our new curriculum topics: Forces and magnets in Science and The Tudors in History. In maths, we are visiting place value and continuing learning to tell the time to the nearest minute using numerals, Roman Numerals and 24 hour clock. In English, we are focusing on our sentence openers and use of conjunctions to extend our sentences and add detail to our descriptions.

Year 4

Welcome back from what we hope was a relaxing break.  We realise this is a long and busy half term coming up to finish year 4.  It seems like the time has flown by this year and we're not ready to say goodbye yet.  So this week we should be doing the times tables check - the children have worked really hard and practised loads, so they, you and we, have nothing to worry about.  We'll be reassuring them of this in class.  Next week we can celebrate (weather permitting) with Sports Day.

Year 5

Welcome back to Summer 2.

In Maths, we are revisiting place value. In English, we are recapping some of our previously taught skills before we go on to use these in a persuasive piece of writing for an M&S food advert.

For our curriculum subjects, we will be learning about the Victorians in History, Earth and Space in Science (ready for our trip to the Observatory and Planetarium) and we are going to deepen our knowledge of Christianity in RE.

Year 6

This week, some of us will be starting 'Let's Get Cooking' which is very exciting. Over the next few weeks everyone will have a turn. Watch out for some tasty meals. Our main writing focus will be persuasive writing and looking at the different techniques and style needed to create a persuasive article.  We will be creating a brochure for a fictional hotel.
