In maths we shall be revisiting halving numbers and objects.

Your child will now have moved into a new phonics group. Please ensure you read with them regularly.

Year 1

In Maths, Year 1 will be representing adding and subtracting on a blank number line and then working on word problems for addition and subtraction.  In English, we will be continuing with the story of the Paperbag Princess and the children will be retelling the story in their own words, using conjunctions and adjectives.  Please remember that PE days are Tuesday and Friday.  Please read with your child every day and sign the Reading Record.  Phonics books will be changed on Thursday.  Thank you for your continued support.

Year 2

In Maths, we are going to read the time to o'clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to. We are also going to draw the hands on the clocks to show us what time it is.

In English, we are going to keep using all of our skills to make our writing more interesting.

We are looking at using capital letters, finger spaces and end marks consistently. We will be adding expanded noun phrases (tall, brick wall) and conjunctions (and, because, when, if) to our sentences.

Year 3

This week in Year 3, we are using all four operations to solve real-life, multi-step problems in maths. In English, we will be using prepositions and adverbials in our writing using a video clip as a stimulus. We will be learning how the War of the Roses ended and about the Battle of Bosworth in History and continuing our work around forces in Science.

Year 4

This week in Year 4 we hope to finish the Multiplication Check for those children who missed it last week.  But that doesn't mean we stop learning our times tables!  The children have worked really hard, and we're all so proud of them - we're sure you are too.  We are really enthusiastic about our new topics, learning about soundwaves, and the Stuarts - both classes seem really enthusiastic, which is great.  We're looking forward to sports day in a couple of weeks but first this week we have the sponsored bounce!

Year 5

This week in Maths, we are revisiting some of the more challenging areas of Year 5 calculation, focusing mostly on multiplying by one and two digit numbers. Miss Gillies' group will also be multiplying with decimal numbers.

In English, we are using a lovely book called 'The Bear, The Piano, the Dog and the Fiddle' to write diary entries as the main character, portraying his conflicting emotions.

Year 6

This week in year six, we will be starting our new geography topic on The Amazon Rainforest. We will be perfecting our map skills to identify where it is situated - the countries it runs through, the overall size of it and most importantly the impact of its destruction on our planet. Auditions for our year six production will take place this week and our singing lessons will intensify.
