This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 16th June
Week beginning: 16th June
Nursery
This week in nursery the children will be learning about the life cycle of a caterpillar and learning some interesting facts. We will be finding symmetrical patterns in our natural outdoor environment I.e leaves and flowers and then recreating them out of different recourses.
The children will be retelling the story “ The very hungry caterpillar “ using props.
Reception
This week in Reception class we will be exploring the topic of pirates and under the sea. The children should have by now come home with more information about what we are doing. In maths we will be revisiting 2D and 3D shapes. Look around your home to see how many 2D and 3D shapes you can find. Can you name them?
Post them on tapestry.
Please continue to read everyday with your child and return ALL reading books by Wednesday of each week.
Year 1
This week in Maths, Year 1 will be sharing and using arrays. In English we are looking at the book 'The Queens Hat' in which we will be making predictions and role playing parts of the story.
A reminder that PE is on Tuesday and Friday, children should be wearing the appropriate PE kit on these days only.
Please remember to sign your child's Reading Record everyday when they have read to you.
Sports Day and Family Picnic is on Friday 20th June.
Year 2
In Maths, we are going to spend a day on each of the four operations (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing). We are going to solve number sentences and word problems using the skills that we were taught in Year 2.
In English, we are going to retell the story of Humpty Dumpty using all the skills: capital letters, finger spaces, end marks, conjunctions and expanded noun phrases.
On Friday, it is Sports Day and Family picnic day. We are looking forward to seeing you there.
Year 3
This week in Year 3, we will be using our times table facts to multiply, divide and solve two-step and missing number problems. In English we are revisiting speech. Using inverted commas, commas, exclamation marks and question marks appropriately. In Science, we will be exploring magnets in the real world and we will be creating a timeline of the Tudor Monarchs in history.
Year 4
This week in year 4 we're excited for the Dog's Trust visit at the start of the week and (weather permitting) sports day at the end. The children are really enjoying learning about Stuarts - partly because it was a very gory period of time! We're getting to the nitty gritty of our science topic of sound and asking big questions in R.E. as the children discuss if we can prove the existence of God. We've been impressed by the grown up attitudes and careful language being used.
Year 5
In Year 5, we will be starting a new unit of work in English on a short film called Alma. We will be focusing on...
In Maths, Miss Gillies' group will be recapping some areas of fractions that we have found more challenging and learning how to divide fractions.
Year 6
This week in Year six, we will begin our new topic on the Circulatory System. We will learn about the three main parts and their role in ensuring our system runs smoothly. During Geography, we will be looking at the effects deforestation has on our climate and what we can do to help stop it. Rehearsals for our production will hopefully get underway this week too.
