This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 23rd June
Week beginning: 23rd June
Nursery
This week in nursery we will be continuing to learn about the life cycle of a caterpillar as this has really grabbed the children's interest. And we are lucky enough to have caterpillars in our classroom where the children have been observing them transform.
They will be continuing to learn their phonic sounds and number recognition to 10 and beyond.
Reception
This week in Reception Class we will continue our topic of under the sea. The theme will enable the children to explore the amazing world beneath the ocean's surface.
We will be learning about sea creatures and their habitats incorporating this into their writing.
In maths we are introducing the children to simple multiplication eg 3 lots of 2 is 6.
Please ensure you continue to read with your child and return all books by Wednesday of each week.
Year 1
In Maths, Year 1 will be dividing amounts and shapes into halves and quarters. In English, the children will be using their comprehension skills to answer questions about a text they will be reading. PE days are Tuesday and Friday. Please read with your children everyday and sign their Reading Records everyday. Phonic books will be changed on Thursday.
Thank you for your continued support.
Year 2
In English, we are going to finish our recounts of how Humpty Dumpty made it back on the wall. Towards the end of the week, we are going to edit and improve them, then publish them for our display.
In Maths, we are still going to practice questions of the 4 operations. We will decide whether we can do them in our heads using number bonds, doubles or our times table facts. If we need to use written methods, we will use the taught methods to solve number sentences.
On Friday 27th June, it is our Wellbeing Day.
Year 3
This week in Year 3, we are using interesting verbs and adverbs to improve our sentence openers. In maths, we will be reading and interpreting data in pictograms and bar charts. In history, we will be learning about Henry VIII, his wives and his impact on religion. We will be investigating magnets and how they are used in the real-world in our science lesson.
Year 4
In year 4 this week we'll mostly be recovering from our fantastic sports day, picnic and a hot weekend.. To help with this, Friday is our final wellbeing day of the year. We will also continue with our topics about sound, the Stuarts, and monotheistic religions.
Year 5
This week, we will be starting a new book about a very scared mouse and writing a non-fiction fact file on fears and phobias! We are looking forward to this as we all enjoy non-fiction writing.
For Maths, Miss Gillies' group will be continuing our work on scaling, now focusing on scaling shapes, as well as recapping other key areas of geometry. Mrs Gold and Mrs Adam's group will be multiplying 2 digit by 2 digit numbers using column multiplication.
On Friday, we have wellbeing day!
Year 6
This week, in year six, we have two of our year six activities. On Tuesday, 6 Poplar will be taking a well-being walk to Scadury and 6 Pine will be taking part in the First Aid tasks. On Wednesday, the classes will swap over the activities. Rehearsals for our production will continue this week too.
