This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 7th July
Week beginning: 7th July
Nursery
This week in nursery we will discuss transitioning into reception, looking at the environment, discussing how exciting and fun it will be making new friends and having new teachers too.
Our story this week is called " Rose learns about school"
We will continue to practice our phonic sounds and number recognition..
Reception
This week the children will be exploring the topic of knights and castles. It introduces them to the past in a fun and engaging way, laying the foundations for early history skills. Through stories, role-play and creative activities children can develop new vocabulary and understand the difference between past and present.
In maths we shall be looking at the introduction to division using resources.
As we are coming towards the end of the term it is still very important to continue reading with your child. If reading books folders are not returned every Wednesday we can not issue your child with a new book. Please support us to support your child. Thank you.
Year 1
This week Year 1 are excited for their trip to Broadstairs! Please remember to dress your child according to the weather, and put on sun cream if needed. A bucket and spade can be bought along but this will be your child's responsibility.
In Maths we will be solving subtraction problems using coins.
In English we will be writing a recount of our trip.
PE days are Tuesday and Friday.
Please remember to read with your child and sign their Reading Record.
Year 2
In Maths, we are going to solve addition and subtraction number sentences using the column method. Towards the end of the week, we are going to mix them up to see if the children can recognise the correct operation.
In English, we are going to write a poster using all of our Year 2 skills. We are going to use capital letters, finger spaces, conjunctions (and, because, when, if), expanded noun phrases (bright, yellow fish) and end marks.
Year 3
This week in Year 3, we are using our times table knowledge to calculate fractions of amounts. In English, we are looking at poetry and will be using interesting adjectives and adverbs to become poets. In science, we are learning how magnets are used in the real world and we will be creating a Tudor Rose out of clay in art.
Year 4
In year 4 this week we are gearing up to finding out who our new class teachers will be, and putting the finishing touches to reports. Yet, we still have plenty of learning to focus on. Between the gunpowder plot, the plague and the great fire of London, our history topic has been great fun - the children are eager to find out what happens next to those Stuarts! The science of sound has not been a quiet one, but this week should quieten down a little. Hopefully the weather will be a little cooler too!
Year 5
In Year 5, we have a busy week this week. Wednesday is transition day, where the children will be meeting their Year 6 teachers and Friday is our trip to Greenwich Observatory and Planetarium.
In between, we will be visiting fractions in Miss Gillies' group and Mrs Gold and Mrs Adam will be consolidating our short division skills!
For our English, we will be continuing with learning about modal verbs and we will be writing letters to the new Year 4 to give advice about life in Year 5.
Year 6
This week in year six, we will be looking at the function of our blood and learn the names of the different parts and their job within our body. In English, we will be writing a diary entry as a blood cell. Production rehearsals will continue.
