This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 14th July

GraysGenericNew23

Week beginning: 14th July

Nursery

This week in nursery we will be continuing with the theme “ Transitioning to reception” as the children have been very excited and full of information about their new class/school. And we will be discussing why it is important to come to school everyday.

The children have been doing an amazing job practicing their songs to sing to parents and we look forward seeing you all there and joining us for afternoon tea.

Reception

We will continue to explore the exciting world of Knights and Castles and through stories and hands-on projects, the children will discover how castles were built, and what it meant to be a knight.
In maths we shall be exploring division and at this stage we focus on using real objects to help understand the idea of sharing.
Please  continue to read with your child and return ALL reading books before the end of term. Thank you

Year 1

This week, in Maths, Year 1 will be measuring and weighing different items using different resources and estimating the lengths of different objects.  In English, we will be reading the book 'Incredible You' and using adjectives and nouns to describe ourselves and a special person. Please read with your child every day and sign their Reading Records every day.  PE days are Tuesdays and Fridays.

Year 2

In Maths, we are going to revise all the skills that are linked to place value. We are going to compare and order numbers up to 100. We are going to partition numbers into tens and ones. We are also going to make numbers using Dienes.

In English, we are going to revise all the skills that we were taught in Year 2. We are going to make sure to use capital letters, finger spaces and end marks. We are going to reread our sentences to check if they make sense. If needed, we are going to edit and improve them.

On Monday, 14th July, it is Open Afternoon from 2pm, parents/carers are invited to come and have a look at what the children have been learning.

Year 3

This week in Year 3's English lessons, we will be using a new class book as a writing stimulus. Using fronted adverbials, conjunctions and interesting adjectives to retell the story and describe a character. In maths we are using all four operations as well as our knowledge of fractions to solve a variety of real-life problems and we will be fine tuning our Year 3 arithmetic skills. We are looking forward to our last swimming session where we are able to swim as a whole class again and we will be completing our  clay Tudor Roses in art.

Year 4

We've had a busy week in year 4 and are recovering from our first transition day and our visit from our recycling company to discuss the processes taken by recycled products.  This week we have our open afternoon for you to come in a chat about your child's report, we're also getting a sneak peek of the year 6 production as well as our second transition afternoon and your chance to meet with your child's new teacher after school.  Finally, we are looking forward to the summer fair! Yet, somehow, we will in fact still manage some teaching and learning as we start to finish off our topics.

Year 5

In Year 5, we have another busy week ahead. We have our open afternoon on Monday PM, a transition afternoon with their new Year 6 teachers on Tuesday and our Victorian day on Thursday!

In Maths, Miss Gillies's group are continuing to recapping fractions. Miss Gold/Mrs Adam's group are practicing moving between the four operations in both arithmetic and reasoning style questions.

In English, we are looking at editing to improve work by including all of the skills they have been taught in Year 5.
