This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 8th September
Week beginning: 8th September
Nursery
Welcome back everyone and a big welcome to our new children and parents, all the children have settled in well.
This half term, our focus topic is “All about me” This will help us get to know your child and their unique personality. It’s also a great way for the children to get to know each other, build connections and form new friendships.
Reception
This week in Reception we shall be looking at ourselves and talking and drawing about our families.
If you wish you can upload a photo of your family on tapestry so the children share who lives with them.
Maths we shall be looking at number recognition and exploring number and quantity.
Please remember that Thursday is PE for both classes so please come to school dressed in your PE kit.
A reminder that on the 10th September we are holding a RWI phonic workshop from 9am in the hall for our new Reception parents and carers. Please go through to the main office.
Year 1
This week, in English Year 1 will be writing main clauses about Autumn and practising our letter formation, capital letters and end marks. In Maths, we will be working within 10, counting objects accurately, subitising and using 10 frames. A reminder that PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Please remember that phonics books are changed on Thursday and Reading Records must be signed everyday by an adult and brought into school. Thank you for your support.
Year 2
In Year 2, we will be looking at adding expanded noun phrases to our writing in English. In Maths, we are in our second week of place value. We will focus on partitioning numbers into tens and ones, and on ordering numbers. In Science, we are starting our topic: How does an animal choose a home?
Year 3
In English, we are going to have another week using the book ' Can I build another me?'. Children will plan a recount of the story and write it up using capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and noun phrases. Towards the end of the week, we are going to write questions using the correct punctuation mark.
In Maths, we are going to consolidate numbers and place value. We are going to order and compare two and three digit numbers. We are going to talk about the value of each digit. Our times table focus is 3x.
Year 4
Year 5
This week in Year 5 we are continuing with place value in maths. We will be ordering and comparing numbers, rounding to the nearest decimal and whole number and multiplying by 10, 100 and 1,000. In English we are concentrating on conjunctions to join clauses and using subordinate clauses to start sentences. In geography we will be looking more in depth at timezones and the importance of Greenwich observatory and in science we are comparing the life cycle of butterflies and birds.
Year 6
This week in year six, we will be turning the nursery rhyme Hey Diddle Diddle into a narrative. We will be using powerful verbs, expanded noun phrases and looking at how to start our sentences in different ways. In science, we are classifying the five groups within the animal kingdom. In geography, with are exploring the main categories of land use.
