Week beginning: 22nd September

Nursery

This week in nursery we will be taking the children on a nature walk , the perfect way to connect their observations on the weather and how it has changed.

For maths the children will be grouping the items they have found on the nature walk , starting by just counting “ we have found 5 leaves”

Our story this week is “Owl Babies”

Reception

This week we are going to be revisiting our Grays Farm Values and linking these to our routines that the children are learning.

In maths we will be exploring the number 5, ordering numbers and matching number to quantity.

Friday will be MacMillan coffee morning so please see the email already sent. We would like to see you all at 2.45pm to support this worthy cause.

Year 1

This week in English, Year 1 will be continuing with the story of the The Leaf Thief and writing main clauses, using an adjective.  In Maths, we will be learning how to subtract using objects.  Can you please sign your child's Reading Record everyday and send into school.  Phonics books are changed on Thursdays. PE days are Tuesday and Thursday.  Thank you for your continued support.

Year 1 Team

Year 2

In Year 2, we will be starting a new book called ' The Pickle Jar' and we will be focussing on past tense. In Maths, we will be spending the week using the subtraction operation. In Science, we will be building our own habitats.

Year 3

In Maths, we are going to work on subtraction number sentences using 3 digit numbers.

In English, we are going to look at the features of an instruction and we are going to write our own instruction of how to look after a ‘lost thing’.

Our school trip is on Thursday 25th September.

Year 4

This week, year 4 are continuing to learn to round numbers, building up to rounding to the nearest thousand. In English, we are working to use paragraphs to group our information, recognising that all sentences in a paragraph share a main idea. In science we will be classifying animals, learning the key vocabulary of mammals, amphibians, reptiles and birds. 

Year 5

This week in Year 5, we are learning how to use similes and metaphors to create images in the mind of our reader and will be starting to analyse language choices in poetry. In maths, our focus is addition and subtraction, solving multistep, missing number and inverse problems. In geography, we will be learning about 4 point grid references and using them to find key locations on local maps and in our science lesson we will be investigating how to clone a plant from a cutting. 

Year 6

This week in year six, we will be continuing our work around the book The Red Tree. The children will be writing in the third person, whilst considering their use of powerful verbs and varying their sentence openers by using action openers. In Geography, we will be looking at fair trade and the impact it has on people's lives. 

On Friday morning, between 11:30 and midday, year six will be hosting the MacMillan Coffee morning - we hope to see lots of you there.
