This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 29th September

Week beginning: 29th September
Nursery
This week will be continuing our theme on Autumn and finding out what other animals apart from owls are nocturnal.
We will be observing the changing colours in our outdoor environment, especially looking at the colour of the leaves and identifying any patterns around us.
Our book of the week is “Leaf Man”
Reception
Reception Class will be focusing on our bodies and how they work. We will be exploring the body parts that we can see on the outside and using our phonic knowledge to label models.
In maths we are looking at number bonds of 5, eg 2 and 3 is 5.
On Friday we will be celebrating Harvest Festival, all donations please send in with your child.

Year 1
This week in English, Year 1 will be writing main clauses about aliens and focusing on their handwriting. In Maths, we will be using positional language and looking at the properties of different 2D shapes. Please sign your child's Reading Record every day. Phonics books are changed on Thursday. PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Thank you for your continued support.
Year 2
Year 3
In English, we are going to use noun phrases to describe Orpington High Street and the Priory Gardens. Towards the end of the week, children will write a diary entry about their school trip.
In Maths, we are going to multiply a two-digit number by a one digit number (2x, 5x and 10x).
On Friday, 3rd October it is the Harvest Festival.
Year 4
Next week, year 4 will be learning more about how to classify animals, and will be using their learning to write non-chronological reports using subheadings to group their information. In maths, we will be revisiting the use of column addition and subtraction for arithmetic, as well as continuing to practise our times tables. In Geography, we are going to be learning about the temperate zones of Earth, identifying where they are and learning about their climates.
Year 5
This week in Year 5, we are focusing on our use of tense, specifically past tense verbs in our English lessons. We will be using powerful verbs and descriptive vocabulary to retell a narrative. In maths, we are using our addition and subtraction skills to solve problems involving bar charts, line graphs and time differences. In science, we will be monitoring our investigation over time and will be dissecting a flowering plant and we will be continuing our work around map reading and compass points in geography.
Year 6
This week, we will be introducing speech and speech punctuation into our narrative and thinking about character action to move our story along. In geography, we are identifying natural resources and why humans rely on them. During our guided reading sessions, we are using a non-fiction text to help us consolidate our fact retrieval skills.
