GraysGenericNew23

Week beginning: 10th October

Nursery

This week in nursery we’re celebrating the Harvest Festival, we will be learning what the harvest means - the time of year when the farmers collect all the delicious food they have grown.

To enhance our learning we will be reading “The scarecrows wedding” and looking at the  job of a scarecrow , protecting the crops that are part of the harvest. We will also be participating in the whole school Design and Technology project by making delicious kebabs!

Reception

This week in Reception Class we will continue looking at our bodies and exploring the benefits of healthy food and exercise.

The children will be sampling healthy fruits and making fruit kebabs later in the week.

In maths we will continue looking at numbers within 5.

Please ensure all reading folders are returned every Wednesday.

Year 1

This week in English, Year 1 will be reading the book "The Way Back Home" and brainstorming ideas about what activities the boy would get up to if the Martian visited Earth.  They will then be writing a letter to their friend telling them all about their fun activities.  In Maths, Year 1 will be identifying the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.  Please remember to sign your child's Reading Record every day.  PE days are Tuesday and Thursday.  Thank you for your continued support.

Year 2

For Year 2, we're diving back into the book 'The Pickle Jar' and concentrating on the 'but' conjunction. In Maths, we'll spend two weeks on a unit all about money. Our Science focus will be exploring why some animals can't survive in certain habitats.

The week of October 13th, Year 2 has set aside a day and a half for DT. We'll be busy designing and making some delicious snacks. Keep an eye out for a separate message next week detailing a few ingredients your child may need to bring in.

Year 3

In Maths, we are going to divide two digit numbers with a one digit number.

In English, we are going to use a new book 'The Lost Homework' for the next two weeks. This book is linked to our Geography topic, Roma Gypsy Travellers.

The week beginning 13th October, we are going to make scones. The children will need to bring in any additional ingredients that they would like to add to their basic scone mixture.

Year 4

This week, year 4 will be finishing our pieces of writing about animal classification, using subheadings to organise our information. We will then move on to learning how plants are classified, in particular using the key words "evergreen" and "deciduous". We will be beginning our DT learning about how to make scones, tasting lots of different scones, and designing our own sweet or savoury scones.

Year 5

This week in Year 5, we are showcasing our learning so far by taking part in the school's NTS assessments. We will be using our calculation skills to find the area and perimeter of regular shapes and we are learning to calculate the perimeter of compound shapes in maths. In English, we are writing an information text based on our science investigation around the parts of a plant and in geography we will be using our compass knowledge to complete an orienteering task around the school grounds.

Our PE days this week will be Tuesday and Friday.

Year 6

This week, year six will be experiencing their first official mock SATs week. The tests will start on Monday (after the school photos) and finish on Thursday. The children will be told on the morning of each day what tests they will be taking that day. We have reassured the children that these tests are for us to assess their learning. In addition to our tests, we will be starting our DT project - Fantastic Foods, where we will be designing and creating our own rolls.
