Week beginning: 3rd November

Nursery

In nursery we will be learning about the wonderful celebrations of Diwali and Bonfire night. The children will be exploring the beautiful colours patterns and sounds associated with these festivals, encouraging their sensory development and creativity.

Our primary focus will be on firework safety, the children will learn how to stay safe and enjoy these exciting events. We will be reading the lovely story “The Quiet Little Firework “ 

Reception

This week in Reception Class we will learn about Diwali, The Hindu Festival of Light. Learning about this helps children to appreciate diversity, respect, different beliefs and understand that people live  their lives in different ways. In maths we shall be looking at patterns within our environment.

 Please ensure you check the notice board outside our garden each day for updates. Also please ensure you continue to read daily with your child and return ALL books by WEDNESDAY of each week. Thankyou for your support.

Year 1

Welcome back Year 1! We hope you have enjoyed the holidays.

This week, in Maths, Year 1 will be learning all about numbers to 20, using various resources such as dienes, ten frames and string beads.  In English, we will be reading the book "The Secret Elephant".  We will be focusing on nouns and adjectives and writing a wanted poster for an escaped elephant.  PE days will still be Tuesday and Thursday.  Please sign your children's Reading Records everyday. Year 1 Team

Year 2

We will be looking at Place Value in Maths, in English we will be looking at past and present tense and writing main clauses using these. 

In History we will be learning about different explorers and in Science we will be learning about food chains.

PE days are Monday and Wednesdays, please make sure you're sending your child in their PE kit on these days only please. 

Year 3

Welcome back to Autumn 2!

In English, over the next two weeks, we are going to look at how to use subordinating conjunctions (when, that, if).

In Maths, over the next two weeks, we are going to look at place value and time, including Roman numerals up to 12.

Our Science topic is Light and Shadow and our History topic is Ancient Egypt.

Year 4

This week, year 4 will be continuing to practise using coordinate conjunctions in their writing, taking into consideration when we need a coordinate conjunction and when we should use a full stop. In maths we will be revisiting rounding to the nearest ten, hundred and thousand and beginning to look at negative numbers. In RE we will be starting our new topic learning all about the Hindu religion.

Year 5

This week in Year 5, we are starting a new English class book 'Barnabus' and will be focusing on using commas in our writing to avoid ambiguity. In maths, we are using our times table knowledge to identify factors of a number and to multiply one and two-digit numbers using a formal written method. We are looking forward to beginning to learn about the ancient Maya in our history lesson and we will be carrying out a forces investigation in science.

Year 6

This week, we will be writing persuasive formal letters to a local bakery inviting them to sell our delicious rolls in their shops. In history, we begin our new topic on Crime and Punishment through the ages. We start our work during the Roman period. During our art lessons, we will be looking at perspective art, which usually refers to the representation of three-dimensional objects or spaces in two dimensional artworks. In addition to this, we will be bringing home new spellings to learn.
