Week beginning: 17th November

Nursery

In nursery we will be continuing to explore different colours as the children have really been engaged in finding matching colours in our environment. 

We will be observing the weather and asking “ what makes a rainbow?”

Reception

This week in Reception we will continue our topic about materials and building using material to construct models. Throughout the topic we will be learning new vocabulary such as, strong, smooth, transparent, flexible, bendy etc.

In maths we are looking at adding numbers within and up to 6.

As always please ensure you bring in your child's reading books by Wednesday of each week.  

Year 1

This week in English, we will be writing a diary entry, describing Dave's day when he lost Dogger. We will be using the conjunction 'and' in our writing.  In Maths, we will be looking at number bonds up to 10 in different ways.  Please continue to sign your child's Reading Record every day.  Phonics books will be changed on Thursday. PE days are Tuesday and Thursday.  Well Being Day is Friday.

Year 2

In English, we'll be continuing our work on the past tense spelling rules. In Maths, we'll be moving on to division and solving these with arrays. In History, we'll be learning all about Matthew Henson and his expedition to the North Pole.

Year 3

In Maths, we are going to identify fractions.

In English, we are going to look at a new class book 'The Egyptian Cinderella' for the next two weeks. In the first week, we are going to focus on subordinating conjunctions (when, if, before, after, while, so and because) and we are going to describe feelings.

On Friday, 21st November it is Wellbeing Day.

Year 4

This week, year 4 are beginning to learn about the place value within different decimal numbers including tenths and hundredths. We will be applying our new place value knowledge to multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. In English, we are going to be applying our knowledge of subordinate conjunctions to writing a letter. On wellbeing day next Friday, we will be learning how to apply first aid to someone who is bleeding.

Year 5

This week in Year 5 we are using our multiplication and division knowledge to solve a variety of problems including real-life questions, problem solving and square numbers. In English, we are looking at the features of non-fiction texts and applying these skills to our own letter writing. In history, we are using a variety of sources to evaluate Mayan life and Maya city-states and we are continuing our forces investigations in science.   

Year 6

This week, we will be continuing our work around the book 'The Wolves in the Wall'. We will be working on our use of expanded noun phrases, similes and personification to describe a spooky setting. In history, we are looking at the harsh punishments given out to criminals during the Anglo-Saxon period. With the PE coach, we are focusing on fine-tuning our hockey skills.
