This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 24th November

Week beginning: 24th November
Nursery
With the chilly weather here, in nursery we are focusing on how to keep ourselves cozy! The children will be learning about staying warm through exercise and discussing the importance of wearing the right winter clothes.
Our storytime will feature Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? We'll be working on strengthening memory skills as the children practice recalling the animals and their corresponding colours in the correct order!
Reception
This week in Reception the children will be exploring other forms of materials related to the story of The Elves and the Shoemaker for example, leather, suede, felt. Children will be learning new vocabulary and what materials are best for certain shoes. In maths we are looking at subtraction of two numbers within 6.
Please ensure you read the sound blending books or Ditty sheets with your child every day and return all reading books Wednesdays.
A reminder to bring in your child's labelled nativity costume by Friday 28th November. Thank You.
Year 1
This week, in Maths, Year 1 will be adding one digit and two digits numbers up to 20. In English, we will be reading "Traction Man" and will be using adjectives and nouns to describe a scene from the book and then sequencing part of the story and writing main clauses. Please remember the Church Trip is on Tuesday 25th November. Please remember to sign your child's Reading Record every day. Phonics books will be changed on Thursday. PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Please make sure your child is wearing the correct PE kit. Thank you for your continued support.
Year 2
In English, we'll be learning more about one of the great explorers, Matthew Henson, and preparing to write a diary entry about his expedition.
In Maths, we'll be working on a mix of all four operations and in Science, we'll be exploring food chains.
Year 3
In English, we are going to finish the book 'Egyptian Cinderella'. We are going to use all the skills taught to write a recount of the story. Our new learning will be using paragraphs.
In Maths, we are still going to look at fractions.
Year 4
This week, year 4 will be continuing to practice multiplying numbers including decimals by 10 and 100 before moving on to learn the properties of different 3D shapes. In History, we are going to be diving deep into learning about the ancient Greeks, learning about the original Olympics and the difference in the two ancient Greek cities of Sparta and Athens.
Year 5
This week in Year 5, we are using rulers to accurately measure the area and perimeter of regular and compound shapes in maths. We are also using our multiplication facts to calculate a missing side length of a regular shape. In English, we are investigating biographies, learning about subheadings and chronological order in preparation for writing a biography of our own. In history, we are looking at the landscapes of the Maya regions, learning how they used the land's riches to trade and even practising trading with each other.
Year 6
This week, in RE we will be continuing our learning on Buddhism and identifying the purpose of the Four Noble Truths. In History, we will learn how tortuous the terrible Tudors really were. In writing, we will be continuing to develop our use of speech to move our story along and to infer how our character is feeling.
