This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 1st December

Week beginning: 1st December
Nursery
Our winter topic continues this week! We'll be heading out for a winter walk to become nature detectives, closely observing how the plants and trees have adapted to the season. A key part of our learning will be comparing the leaves to the colours we saw in summer and autumn, discussing the fascinating process of change. Indoors, the excitement builds as we enhance our role-play area into a festive space, complete with a Christmas tree and sparkling decorations!
Reception
This week we are doing some work around the story of The Jolly Christmas Postman. Here the postman meets different characters from traditional rhymes. We will be using our phonics to write letters and messages to each other.
In maths we will be looking at measures using non standard measurements and learning new vocabulary such as tall, taller, tallest and short, shorter, shorest.
If you have not already done so please bring in the children's Nativity costumes asap. Thank you.
Year 1
This week, in English, Year 1 will be continuing reading our story 'Traction Man' and writing main clauses using verbs to describe what Traction Man gets up to during his day. In Maths, we will be looking at Pictograms and making our own one, using our favorite animals.
Please remember to sign your child's Reading Record. Phonic books will be changed on Thursday. PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Thank you for your continued support.
Year 2
In English, we'll be continuing our writing on Matthew Henson.
In Maths, we'll be moving on to statistics and in History, we'll be learning all about Neil Armstrong and his trip to the moon.
Year 3
In English, we are going to look at the features of non-fiction texts. We are going to write a fact file about the River Nile linked to our History topic. At the end of the week, we are also going to write a newspaper report about our Christmas Fair.
In Maths, we are going to look at the properties of 2D shapes.
On Friday, 5th December it is the Christmas Fair.
Year 4
This week, year 4 are going to be reading and writing our very own Greek myths. We will be exploring what the features of a Greek myth are and writing our own Greek myth inspired story. In RE this week, we will be exploring Hindu beliefs about reincarnation and the afterlife.
Year 5
This week in Year 5 we are looking forward to showcasing our learning in reading and maths during our NTS tests. We will be using our calculation skills to find the area and perimeter of compound shapes and using the inverse operations to calculate the length of a missing side. In English, we will be using descriptive and figurative language to describe a character's appearance and movements using a video clip as a writing stimulus. In science, we will be investigating the relationship between the surface area of an object and air resistance and the and in history we are analysing the usefulness of resources and learning about the work of Frederick Catherwood.
Year 6
This week, year six will be writing diaries in English to show a character's emotions and inner thoughts. They will be practising reading them aloud focusing on the reader's voice.
In Science, we will be learning about the famous scientist - Issac Newton. We will be continuing to fine-tune our voices in preparation for our Christmas Carol - Silent Night.
