This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 8th December

Week beginning: 8th December
Nursery
As the festive season approaches, the nursery children will immerse themselves in a variety of holiday activities. These include exploring their creative development by crafting wonderful decorations and experimenting with primary and secondary colours. They will be developing their fine motor skills by cutting symmetrical shapes to create stars and snowflakes, introducing the idea of symmetry and fractions.
Reception
This week in Reception we will be looking at the Christmas Story and Learning about what that means.
In maths we will be exploring shape and sorting, revisiting 2D shapes and exploring the characteristics of 3-D shapes using mathematical language to describe them.
Please ensure you read daily with your child and write in your child's reading log a comment about their book, if they struggled or did well. We really appreciate this.
Year 1
Year 2
This week, Year 2 children will be performing in the Nativity show. In English, we will be learning how to use the conjunction ‘when’ in our writing. In Maths, the children will be interpreting tally charts and bar charts. On Friday 12th December, we will be enjoying a whole day of art activities!

On Monday, 8th December, it is our Egyptian WOW Day. We have a fun filled day planned ahead. Children are welcomed to dress up as an Ancient Egyptian, however it is not compulsory.
In English, we are going to use the range of activities children would have done on the WOW day to help us write up a recount of it.
In Maths, we are going to look at Measure.

Year 5
This week in Year 5 we are continuing with our descriptive vocabulary using the short film 'The Dreamcatcher' as a stimulus. We will be using interesting sentence openers, prepositions, similes and metaphors within a narrative. In maths, our focus will be calculating with fractions. Finding fractions of a given amount, adding and subtracting mixed number and improper fractions and finding equivalent fractions. In History, we will be looking at the beliefs of the ancient Maya.
Year 6
It’s going to be a busy week in year six. We will be rehearsing our carols in preparation for the three carol concerts we will be performing to you. As it’s coming up to the end of term, we will be taking part in assessments in reading and arithmetic. During history, we will be exploring the different types of hard labour during the Victoria era.
