Week beginning: 19th January

Nursery

This week, our nursery explorers are joining the RSPB Big Schools’ Birdwatch! We’ll be heading into the school grounds to see which feathered friends we can find. The children will be practicing their "expert eye" to identify different species, compare their colors and sizes, and use their counting skills to help the RSPB track how our local birds are doing.   

Reception

In Reception Class this week we will be exploring Space light and dark and learning new vocabulary such as light, dark, moon, planets and shadow.

We will be exploring planets, comparing sizes eg big/small, talking about shapes, circles and spheres.

In maths the children will be learning to count and order numbers to 20.

Please ensure you practise letter formation at home, if you need any support please let one of the Early Years Team know.

Year 1

This week, in Maths, Year 1 will be partitioning numbers into 10s and 1s, up to 50, using different manipulatives.  In English, we will be writing a story about visiting different places in England.  This week only, PE days will be Thursday and Friday.  Please remember to sign your child's Reading Record and send into school everyday.  Homework will be set on Friday and should be returned the following Thursday.  Thank you for your continued support.

Year 2

In English, we'll be moving on to our new book 'The Gigantic Turnip' and focussing on spelling rules. In Maths, we'll be moving on to fractions.

Next week (26th and 27th January) year 2 will be having a day and a half days of DT. We'll be making bridges. If you have any plastic 500ml or less bottles in your recycling, please send them in with you child this week.

Year 3

In English, we are going to use emotive language to write a diary entry as the little shoemaker.

In Maths, we are going to multiply and divide two digit numbers by a one digit number.

Due to our trip on Tuesday 20th January, we are going to have Outdoor PE lesson on Friday 23rd January.

Year 4

In year four this week, we are going to be working on our non-fiction writing. We have been learning about electricity in science so will be using command sentences to create posters that explain how to keep safe around electricity. To support us with our learning at home, we could listen to this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lR5RamySULY&list=RDlR5RamySULY&start_radio=1. In maths, we are going to be continuing to multiply and divide any number by 10 and 100, and revisiting the method for multiplying a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number. 

Year 5

This week in Year 5, We are learning how to use adverbials, pronouns and conjunctions to create cohesion within and across paragraphs using a short film as a writing stimulus. In maths, we are calculating using our multiplication and division skills. We will be answering arithmetic questions and solving real-life and multi step problems. 

Year 6

This week, in year six, we will be using figurative language to describe a spooky setting. We will be generating word banks which include powerful verbs and adjectives and looking at using similes. In maths, we are starting our work on long division.
