Nursery

This Week in Nursery: Minibeasts & Friendships

This week, our focus topic will be Minibeasts! The children really enjoyed digging for worms at Forest School last week, so we are following that interest with a Minibeast Scavenger Hunt. We can’t wait to see what creatures they discover crawling and hiding in the undergrowth!

Alongside our outdoor adventures, we will be discussing Friendships. We will invite the children to share their own ideas on "What makes a good friend? We will be talking about concepts such as: being kind to one another, taking turns, having fun, looking after each other, We are learning that having friends helps us feel happy, so it is important to be a good friend.

Reception

This week we will continue our topic on space, in particular light and dark.

We are going to think about what gives us light  and where does it come from?

We will be asking the children to suggest any sources of light and collate our ideas together.

In maths we will be exploring adding and subtraction to 10. Please continue to use the maths homework sheets from last week to support your child at home.

Wednesday is the day when your child should bring their reading folders back to school, we are finding that some children are NOT returning them so we are unable to give your child a new book until you do. It is so important to read regularly with your child at home. We can see the difference in the children's reading ability to the children that do.

Thank you for your support.

Year 1

This week, in Maths, we will be using different manipulatives to add and subtract. In English, we will be rewriting the story of the Welsh dragon.  PE days are Tuesday and Thursday.  Homework is due in on Thursday,  Phonic books get changed on Thursday.  Reading Records need to be signed and in school every day.  Thank you for your continued support.

toy for 10 second! In English, we'll be retelling the story of 'The Gigantic Turnip'. In Maths, we'll be continuing fractions and looking at working out 'fractions of an amount'.

Year 3

In English, we are going to look at a new book 'Our very Greek summer' linked to our Geography topic 'What is it like in Europe?' We are going to learn how to use paragraphs (grouping our ideas).

In Maths, we are still going to look at how to multiply and divide up to 3 digit numbers.

For our DT project, if you have any cardboard boxes or recycling materials such as cereal boxes and kitchen rolls, we would greatly appreciate it if you could send them in with your child before Wednesday 28th January.

Year 4

Year 4 will be moving on to using short division in maths this week. We will be learning how to lay our calculations out and gradually building up to dividing a 4 digit number by a 1 digit number. In English, we will be continuing to write non-fiction about staying safe with electricity. Our focus this week is going to be on using subheadings to group information and using adverbs of frequency to describe how often something should happen.

Year 5

This week in Year 5's English lessons, we are writing relative clauses using a variety of punctuation including brackets and dashes. In maths, we will be learning how to measure angles using a protractor and identifying acute, obtuse and reflex angles.

Year 6

This week, we will be continuing our work in English on creating setting descriptions. We will be developing our use of figurative language - such as: using similes, metaphors, personification and alliteration. We will also be focusing on our use of powerful verbs and adjectives.

In maths, we are consolidating our learning on the use of fractions and long division. We will be continuing to use Learning by Question to support our learning.
