Week beginning: 2nd February

Nursery

 "This week in Nursery, we are continuing our Woodland Animals topic. Our young explorers will be investigating various habitats to discover where these animals call home. We will also be revisiting the concept of nocturnal animals, discussing why some forest friends wake up just as we are going to sleep!"  

  The children will be useing torches in a darkened area of the classroom to simulate "spotting" nocturnal animals in the woods at night.  

Reception

This week we are moving onto our new topic and will be celebrating Chinese New Year. The children will have the opportunity to learn about different cultures and traditions from around the world. Through activities such as music, art, food tasting and role play, children learn about new beginnings, kindness and good luck.

In maths the children will be exploring grouping and sharing, counting in equal groups and adding them together.

Please continue to focus on letter formation at home and of course read daily with your child.

Year 1

This week, in Maths, year 1 will be working out word problems using addition and subtraction.  In English, we will be carrying on with the Dragon story, linked to Geography, and sequencing the story.We will be role playing the story to embed the information before retelling the story.  DT day is Monday and Well Being day is Friday.  PE days are Tuesday and Thursday.  Please remember to sign your child's reading record every day and should be in school every day. Phonic books are changed on Thursday.  Homework is due in on Thursday.

Year 2

In English, we'll be introducing a new book called 'Possum Magic' and looking at the 'and' conjunction.
In Maths, we'll be completing maths assessments at the start of the week and then moving on to statistics.

Year 3

In English, we are going to look at a Swedish fairytale (The three wishes) and what features it has. 

In Maths, we are going to estimate and measure length.

On Friday, 6th February, it is a whole school Wellbeing Day. 

Year 4

In English this week, year 4 are going to be revisiting speech punctuation. It has been a little while since we have covered speech punctuation, so we are going to be concentrating on making sure that we have capital letters in the correct places and that we are starting a new line every time the speaker changes. In maths this week, it is NTS week, so we are going to have the opportunity to show off to our teachers all of our amazing learning and the progress we have made.

Year 5

This week in Year 5, we are continuing to look at angles in maths. measuring and calculating angles on a straight line, and we will be completing maths NTS style papers to showcase our learning. In English, our focus will be fiction writing; using a variety of cohesive devices and descriptive language to create an image in the mind of the reader. 

Year 6

This week, in Year Six is mock SATs week. We will be taking part in SPaG, Reading and Maths tests on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We know the children will be amazing as always and their results will be shared with you during your parent's evening appointment. In geography, we are going to research a South American country before creating a fact sheet around it.
