At Gray’s Farm we follow The TKAT Primary Music Curriculum. Within this curriculum, our aim is to enable and inspire every child to become a musician; to actively engage with fun and diverse musical experiences. We believe that being a musician requires the self-confidence to be creative and take risks. Children build their knowledge and understanding of the elements of music and develop proficiency, as they nurture their love of and an appreciation of music, and achieve personal musical success.

The National Curriculum states that: “As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical cannon.” Therefore, the foundations of the TKAT music curriculum are underpinned by the technical, constructive and expressive pillars of musicianship, taught through the key concepts of pulse, rhythm, pitch, structure and notation. Children progressively build their understanding of these concepts in order to listen, compose and perform with growing precision and proficiency. Through this, children will make more music, think more musically and become more musical.

The TKAT music curriculum is designed on the principle of a spiralised curriculum, allowing space for exposure, experience and preparation; direct teaching of substantive musical knowledge; mindful practice; and meaningful application as children move their understanding from their conscious to unconscious mind. This, in turn, develops the qualities and characteristics of a rounded musician, ready to continue their musical journey into the next phase of their learning.

Rocksteady

At Gray’s Farm, we are delighted to partner with Rocksteady Music School, offering children a fun and engaging way to learn a musical Rocksteadyinstrument. Lessons take place once a week during the school day, giving pupils the chance to develop their skills in a band setting. Children can choose to learn the drums, keyboard, electric guitar, bass guitar, or explore singing. Once a Term, parents are invited in to watch their child perform their chosen instrument.
If you would like to enrol your child or find out more about lesson details and pricing, please visit the Rocksteady Music School website (https://www.rocksteadymusicschool.com/parents/)

Guitar lessons

BymtCurrently, we have a BYMT (Bromley Youth Music Trust) teacher at Gray’s Farm who comes in once a week to teach guitar.
Spaces are limited but if your child is interested in learning an instrument, please visit the BYMT website https://www.bymt.co.uk/children-instrumental-lessons/.
All requests and enquiries can be made here and children can learn instruments during the school day.
Lesson times vary and you can choose to have a 1:1 private lesson or as part of a pair. There are a selection of options and times available.

Choir

From Year 3 onwards, children are able to join our school choir.
Joining the school choir is a wonderful way for children to build confidence, make friends, and enjoy the joy of singing together. Choir helps develop listening and memory skills, encourages teamwork, and gives children the chance to perform and feel proud of their achievements. Most importantly, it’s fun and helps spark a lifelong love of music!
When our school choir visits Pemberley Care Home, it’s a special experience for everyone involved. The children have the chance to share their singing with others, spreading joy and lifting spirits through music. These visits help pupils grow in confidence, develop empathy, and understand the importance of giving back to the community. At the same time, their residents enjoy the energy, warmth, and happiness that the children bring with them.
