Week beginning: 13th April

Nursery

Our focus topic for this half-term is Safari. Our mission this week? Preparing for an expedition! We are learning how to pack smart—deciding which tools are essential, "what should we wear on our heads ?......  and figuring out how to make our bags lighter for the long trek ahead. Along the way, we’ll dive into the world of technology to see how cameras and maps assist us in the wild.

Keep an ear out for the children's big words of the week: Habitat,  Camouflage Binoculars,  Conservation,  Expedition.

Reception

We hope you had a great rest with your families and we are super excited to have you back. This week we will be looking at the Life Cycle of a Butterfly and will be observing how the eggs change into butterflies when our eggs arrive early in the week.

In maths we shall be sorting and describing  2D and 3D shapes  and patterns both inside and outside the classroom.

As always please read daily with your child, we are seeing a huge impact in their reading and writing ability.

Year 1

After half term in Maths, Year 1 will be finding a half and a quarter of a shape and number.  In English. we will be reading Tilda Tries Again and writing a sequence of sentences that are correctly punctuated.  
PE days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Reading Records should be in school everyday.  Phonic books are changed every Thursday.  Thank you.

Year 2

Welcome back!

In English we will be introducing a new book called 'Greta and the Giants' and looking at a new Year 2 skill 'commas in a list'.
In Maths we will be still working on time, days and months of the year.

Year 3

Welcome back! 

In Maths, we are going to look at the place value of numbers up to 1000.

In English, we are going to use all of our skills to write fiction.

Year 4

After half term, Year 4 are going to be continuing to focus on nonfiction writing, looking at the features of diary entries and working to independently check and edit our work. In maths, Mrs O'Brien's group will be continuing their statistics learning, gathering our own data and presenting it as a bar graph. Miss Wigfield's group will be learning all about fractions, beginning by revisiting what the different parts of a fraction are called and what they mean.

Year 5

This week in Year 5 maths, we are finding fractions of shapes, calculating a given fraction of an amount and identifying the link between fractions, decimals and percentages. In English, our focus will be punctuation; marking clauses with commas, relative clauses with dashes and parentheses using a variety of punctuation marks, including brackets. 

Year 6

The countdown begins this week. There are only four weeks left until the Year Six official SATs week begins ( 11th May 2026). Our maths lessons will all be based around revision and consolidating our understanding of reasoning questions. In Geography, we will be investigating different types of rainforests and using atlases to find out where they are generally found.
