This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 20th April

GraysGenericNew23

Week beginning: 20th March

Nursery

This week,  the nursery will be  exploring  the wonderful world of Climate and Weather!

We’ll be comparing the golden, sun-drenched savannas of Africa with our own rainy (but lovely!) England. It’s a great chance for the children to learn why some places stay dry and dusty while others get plenty of puddles to splash in.

To make the week even more special, some of our children will be heading out on a local adventure. We’ll be walking to the post box to post our very important letter to the Born Free Foundation.

if you're out for a walk and it starts to rain (as it often does!),why not ask your child if they think a lion would like this weather or if they’d prefer the savanna sun!

We can't wait to hear their answers!

Reception

This week to conclude our topic we will be focusing on the Life Cycle of a bee and the important role of the bee within our environment.

We shall be exploring the different types of bees, how they transfer pollen between flowers to help create seeds and fruit.

In maths we shall  be exploring subtraction as partitioning into sets and as taking away. We will be looking at the relationship between doubling and halving.

Please return all reading books by Wednesday of each week.

Year 1

This week, in Maths, Year 1 will be solving addition and subtraction problems using a number line.  In English, we will be talking about what makes a good friend and writing main clauses, using adjectives.

PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday.  Phonics books will be changed on Thursday.  Please sign your child's Reading Record every day.

Thank you for your continued support.

Year 2

In English, we will be retelling the story of Greta and the Giants, using and developing all of our Year 2 skills. In Maths, we will be
focusing on addition with carrying, using the expanded column method.

We would really encourage you to support your child with reading at home. We ask that children read at least 5 days a week for 10–15 minutes. Reading to your child is also just as important, as it helps to build a love of stories and supports their understanding and
enjoyment of reading.

Reminder -  PE days for this term are Monday and Thursday.

Year 3

In English, we are going to consolidate our learning about prepositions. We will be writing a diary entry using them accurately.

In Maths, we are going to add and subtract three digit numbers with and without crossing the boundaries. We will be using the compact method.

Year 4

In maths next week, Mrs O'Brien's maths group will be continuing their statistics learning, solving problems with line graphs. Miss Wigfield's group are going to be using their times tables to find fractions of a number so it is super important that we all know our times tables facts. In English, Year 4 is going to be starting to look at writing newspaper articles, thinking about the features of the article and how different adverbials and conjunctions can help us to express time passing or show the order that things have happened.

Year 5

This week in Year 5, our maths focus will be around place value: identifying the value of digits in whole and decimal numbers, ordering and identifying values on a number line, rounding to a given specification and using these skills when calculating. In English, we are continuing our work around punctuation, using a variety of brackets, dashes and commas to mark clauses and add extra information in our writing.

Year 6

The countdown is on. We now have 14 school days until our SATs week and the children are working harder than ever. Homework this week will be another arithmetic test. In our curriculum learning, we are starting our learning on the Amazon Rainforest. We will use maps and atlases to research where different rainforests are located. In science, we will be researching the different functions of the heart.
