This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 27th April

Week beginning: 27th March
Nursery
This week in Nursery, we’re exploring healthy foods through hands-on play. From creating Vegetable Prints with celery and broccoli to designing Fruit Portraits inspired by Arcimboldo, we’re seeing colours and shapes in a whole new way! The children will be cooking up a storm in the Playdough Kitchen, using mint and lemon scents to explore new smells while building fine motor skills. It’s a delicious week of learning!
Reception
This week in Reception, we are moving onto a new topic about Pollution. We will be learning about different kinds of pollution air, water and soil pollution.
In Maths we will secure our understanding of addition and subtraction by exploring subtraction as partitioning into two sets and as taking away, and to solve problems involving doubling and halving.
Please remember to read with your child and please return reading folders on Wednesday.
If you have had any success with your sunflowers we would love to see photos of them.

We are going to be applying our learning by writing newspaper reports about the Artemis III landing, thinking carefully about using punctuation accurately. In maths this week, Miss Wigfield's group are going to be looking at measure, revisiting our learning on how to find the perimeter of a rectangle and knowing how to convert between metres, centimetres and millimetres. Mrs O'Brien's maths group will be practising telling the time. We will be focussing on telling the time and converting time between analogue and digital.
On Thursday, Year 4 are going to be spending the full day on our DT project when we will be making pencil cases!
Year 5
This week in Year 5, we are fine tuning our arithmetic skills using all 4 operations of calculation. In English, we will be using powerful adjectives and verbs as well as a variety of punctuation to describe a setting, describe a character and create atmosphere.

This week, in year six we will be continuing with the book Rose Blanche. We will look closely at some of the powerful images and annotate them, ready for our descriptive writing session. We will be using figurative language, personification and expanded noun phrases. In our geography sessions, we will be investigating the different layers of the Amazon rainforest and using our findings to create an information sheet.
