This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 8th June

Week beginning: 8th June
Nursery
This week in Nursery, we are diving into "Pirates and the Sea"!
The children will be making ocean sensory bottles to explore the wonders of the deep. In Maths, we will be opening up a treasure chest to practice sorting items by their size, shape, and colour.
Reception
This week in Reception we are going to explore what it is like to live in Africa. We can find out about different homes, foods, clothes, celebrations and schools. This helps the children learn that people may do things differently but we are all important and special. Learning about other countries helps us to be respectful and kind.
In maths we will be looking at number patterns beyond 20 in particular ordering numbers to 50, solving practical problems that involve combining groups of 2,5, and 10 or sharing into equal groups.
Please ensure you support your child with this at home.
You would have noticed that your child has moved into another reading band, again ensuring reading is done daily. Thank you for your support.
Year 1
This week, in Maths, Year 1 will be exploring volume and capacity. In English, we will be reading The Paper bag Princess and sequencing the story and retelling the story by role playing and writing main clauses.
PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday.
Phonic books will be changed on Thursday.
Please can you ensure that your child's Reading Record is in school everyday and signed by an adult. Thank you for your continued support.

Year 4
In year 4 this week, all of our hard work is going to pay off as we sit our official multiplication check. We are so proud of all of the children and the effort they have put in learning their times tables this year. In our maths lessons, Miss Wigfield's group are going to be revisiting finding a non-unit fraction of a number, practising using our times tables to find the answers. Mrs O'Brien's maths group will be learning all about angles; we will be using the mathematical vocabulary of acute and obtuse to identify types of angles and working at ordering angles by their size. In English next week, year 4 are continuing to look at narrative writing and fairytales, applying our knowledge of suffixes to write descriptions.
Year 5
This week in Year 5, we will be showing empathy with a character through our word choices in diary entries. In maths, we will be focusing on arithmetic, place value and applying these skills to reasoning problems.
Year 6
This week in year six, we will be investigating the famous scientist - Alex Fleming and how he invented Penicillin. In history, we will be looking at the purpose of Parliament and what is meant by democracy. We will look at the reasons for and against banning social media for under sixteens. During our art sessions, we are creating mood boards for our work around pop art.
