This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 28th November

Generic Gray's Farm

Week Beginning: 28th November 2022

NURSERY

This week our new topic is based around the classic story of The Gingerbread Man.  Through communication and language children will be supported by the use of the story's repeated rhyming refrain. They will learn about prepositions in maths as the Gingerbread jumps out of the oven, over the fence and onto the foxes head. Creative activities will be set each day with an update on the board outside the nursery gate. A reminder to bring in your child's nativity costumes by 30th November.

RECEPTION

In Reception this week, we are stepping up the Christmas preparations!  Rehearsals for our Nativity are going well. Please remember to send your child's costume into school, in a named bag, by Wednesday 7th December at the latest. Please come and see us if you have any problems sorting one.

We are also starting a new topic leading us nicely into the Christmas spirit - we will be reading and basing our activities around the story of 'The Jolly Christmas Postman'. In Maths, we will be exploring the number 9 and what other numbers we can build it with.

Our Christmas fair is on Wednesday 7th December - please send in any donations that you can spare for our stalls by Tuesday 6th December.  Many thanks for your support with this!

YEAR 1

In Maths, we are going to group objects into 2s, 5s and 10s. We are going to put them into arrays, ie. I have 8 counters. How many arrays/groups of 2s can I make? There will be 4 arrays/groups.

We will also look at arrays of 2s, 5s and 10s and discuss how many rows, how many columns they have and altogether how many objects we have in preparation to multiplication.

In English, we are going to continue the story of Stick Man, we will be using noun phrases to describe parts of the story.

We are aiming to extend our sentences with conjunctions such as ‘and’ and ‘because’. Towards the end of the week, we will be writing a recount of the story using main clauses.

YEAR 2

In Year 2, we will be completing our first tests of the year. We will be writing about both our History and RE topics during our English lessons. We are also looking forward to starting our rehearsals of this year's nativity - Born in a Barn!

YEAR 3

Next week we will be learning about the diversity of the Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs and using view finders in art to focus on details of our sketches. In RE we will find out about the Muslim holy book and how it is looked after. During our English and Maths lessons, we will be reviewing our learning of all our topics and skills.

YEAR 4

In English this week, we will be focusing on adding 'ed' spelling rules. We will be looking at present tense verbs and using our adding 'ed' knowledge to change these to the past tense. We will also be writing a diary entry in role as the main character.

In Maths this week, we will be continuing with fractions. We will be adding and subtracting subtractions and we will be solving problems based on our previous fraction knowledge.

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, it is NTS test week. We are excited to be entering a science competition, where the children will research a scientist and create an informative poster about their chosen person. We are also looking forward to making our 'Failed Projects' based around our previous book, 'The Barnabus Project.'

YEAR 6

This week, year six will be continuing their journey through History. We will be stopping at the Tudor period, where humiliation and public shaming were the main form of punishment. In art, we will begin to design our own food packages, with a key focus on the different styles of writing techniques.
