Week Beginning: 5th May 2024

NURSERY

This week in nursery our theme is Transport / cars and we are teaming up with reception to participate in some great joint activities. For those children joining reception in September it’s a great way to start off getting to know the teachers.

We will be reading Mr Grumpy's Motorcar as well as lots of rhyming books.

In maths we will be comparing quantities up to 10.

RECEPTION

As part of our transition from Nursery to Reception we will be doing a combined topic this week on transport.

We shall  be looking at road safety and different modes of transport. The children will have the opportunity of writing their own stories based on one of our stories called the "Naughty Bus"

In maths we will continue to  secure odd and even numbers through a variety of different activities.

Please ensure that you read regularly with your child and return all books by Wednesday of the following week.

YEAR 1

Maths - Working on fractions, to recognise half and a quarter of a shape and quantity.

English - We are writing main clauses using emotive language.

PE will be on Tuesday and Thursday this week only because of Bank Holiday Monday. 

Please remember to read and sign your reading records every day. 

YEAR 2

Year 2 are continuing our writing about the Magic Finger in English. In Maths, we are halving and partitioning. We will be looking at the human life cycle in Science and in Geography, we are learning about the impact of climate change on the rainforests. 

YEAR 3

Next week in maths we will be looking at measurement. This will include making our very own potions! In English we will be writing a non fiction, information text all about volcanoes! This is a topic we are really enjoying learning about in our Geography lessons as well. Please remember to read with your child each day and send their reading record to school with them, signed. Thank you! 

YEAR 4

This week in English, we will be focusing on the Present Perfect tense e.g They have enjoyed their school trip or she has taken the rubbish outside. 

This week in Maths, we will be rounding decimals to the nearest decimal point, comparing and ordering decimals to the nearest decimal point and finding fractions of amounts. 

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are using formal language and reported speech to write a newspaper article about the Battle of Hastings. In maths, we are continuing finding fractions and percentages of amounts and will be practising our arithmetic skills in maths. In geography, we will be learning about dams, who makes them and why they are important to our river system.

YEAR 6

This week in year six is revision week. The children have worked extremely hard towards their SATs and this week we will be filling any last minutes gaps that the children would like. PE and music will be on Friday as normal.
