Week Beginning: 07 December 2020

NURSERY

This week to follow on from our Gingerbread man  theme,  we will be taking part in experiments related to  floating and sinking and exploring if weight makes a difference?  On Friday we will be celebrating Hanukkah,  Jewish festival of light. The children will make their own lamps and using their cutting skills to make a menorah.

If you have any questions please contact one of our Early Years Team.

RECEPTION

This week, we have a very busy week ahead of us. In Literacy, we will be using the story of 'The Jolly Postman' to aid our learning this week. We will be writing letters, cards, postcards and exploring the characters from the story. In Maths, we will be continuing to look at a whole number and parting it into two. We will then be thinking about adding the two parts back together, to make the whole. We will be exploring the language around adding and will begin to write addition number sentences.

YEAR 1

A massive thank you to all the parents and carers who supported their children, and us, during our recent Remote Learning! This week we will be completing school tests, and learning facts to write about Kamala Harris. We will be beginning the foundations of division, by sharing objects into equal groups. A little reminder, please can you send in angel costumes by Tuesday so that we can begin to record our parts for the Nativity. Thank you for your support.

YEAR 2

Maths: We are learning all about measure, including how to measure using different apparatus, how to read scales and we will be trying to learn the conversions between different units of measure - this is tricky!

English: We are completing some tests in English this week. Our other English lessons will be on writing in the past tense accurately.

History: We will be beginning to learn about Neil Armstrong! Learning how, when and where he explored.

YEAR 3

YEAR 4

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are interpreting different types of graphs in our maths lessons and creating  bar graphs and pictograms of data we have collected. Our Science and English lessons are merging; we will be learning about different mechanisms that help us lift heavy objects and creating an information text . In History, we will be investigating the achievements on the Maya and even cracking a code!

YEAR 6

In English, children are looking at a new book called 'Dasher' and will be writing a setting description.

In Science, they will be completing an investigation to see if a piece of fruit or vegetable can be used to replace a battery in a circuit.
