This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 16/03


Week Beginning: 15 March 2021


We are so please at how not only have our new children settled into nursery but also how receptive, kind and caring our older nursery children have been.

This week we are going to be exploring the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We shall be recalling and sequencing the story events, growing our own beans, talking about  what plants/ seeds need in order to grow. During our Forest school sessions we will be hunting  and ordering the  giants numbered footprints which may lead us to the castle?

This week, we will be starting our new topic ‘Dinosaurs’. We will be looking at a range of non fiction texts and writing our very own facts about these wonderful creatures that used to roam our lands. In Maths, we will be working on one more and one less and then moving on to adding two single digit numbers by the end of the week. We will be solving addition number problems practically and also be thinking of written methods to solve these too. 


 In Year 1 the children will be writing instructions using bossy verbs such as 'put', 'get', 'cut'.

Im Maths the children will be learning to recognise British coins and their values. They will also be adding coins and making amounts using coins.


In Writing this week, we will be retelling the story of the 'Gigantic Turnip' with the actions we have been making up. We will be continuing to focus on our +ed spelling rules. 


In Maths this week, we will be looking at fractions of shapes and numbers. We will be focusing on 1/2, 1/4, 3/4, 1/3 and 2/4. 


In History this week, we will be continuing to look at hospitals and nurses, We will be focusing on hospitals and nurses in the past and comparing them with modern day hospitals and nurses.


In Science this week, we will be continuing with our plant topic. We will be planning our investigation and planting a sunflower seed to measure over the coming weeks linked to statistics in Maths! 


This week Year 3 will be working on incorporating conjunctions into a sentence in English.

In Maths we will be measuring, comparing, adding and subtraction mass (g & kg).  Looking at the relationship between g and kg.


In Maths this week, Year 4 will be using the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  For English we will be practising our comprehension skills.  We are continuing our Science topic on sound and completing our RE unit by answering the question "How do we know what is right and wrong?"


This week in year 5, we will be finishing our work around our class book, Mr Rapenzul in English. . In maths, we will continue comparing percentages, decimals and fractions before learning how to calculate the area of irregular, composite shapes. We are looking forward to  learning more about the vikings, looking in more detail at their settlements, language and clothing and using this knowledge to write in the role of a viking warrior. In science, we are looking at our own development and will be creating an informative fact file.


In year six, we will be learning what life was like for children, and their host families, who were evacuated during World War 2.

In P4C, we will be looking at the impact Government propaganda posters had on people during WW2.
