Year 2 Octopus Experiment

Octopus 2

On Wednesday 23rd November, Year 2 will be completing a science investigation where we will be observing a dead octopus in class. We will be looking at how it is adapted to suit its environment and how it eats, as a part of our learning on animal habitats and food chains. In this lesson, we will be identifying the different features of the octopus’s body and how these help it to survive.

We will be bringing a dead octopus into both year 2 classes and the children will get a chance to observe and touch the different parts of the octopus, if they would like to.

This will be carried out in a controlled environment, where all areas will be cleaned and disinfected. The children and adults will also be wearing gloves, aprons and glasses throughout the investigation. A risk assessment has also been completed to ensure that the investigation is safe for all participants.

Please speak to your class teacher if you have any questions or concerns regarding this experiment or whether your child has any allergies with regards to an octopus.
