Week Beginning: 11th September 2023

NURSERY

Our topic this week in nursery is “All about me” for arts and crafts we will be using mirrors to create self portraits using different media such as paint pens and pencils.

As it is some of the children’s first time away from their parents/carers we will be talking to the children about emotions and reassure them that is ok to be a little sad or scared at first and talk about things that make them happy and excited.

Our book of the week is “what makes me a me” we will encourage the children to talk about their own family’s and think about what makes us all unique ………foods we like sports and toys we like to play with.

RECEPTION

We are so impressed with how the children have settled into Reception.

This week we will be focusing on our school environment, visiting all the areas within school that we will be using.

We will be exploring the Colour Monster story and talking about our feelings, this will tie in with our Well Being  Day on Friday. Please check the board in the garden area for daily updates.

YEAR 1

In Maths, we are going to compare numbers up to 20 using the vocabulary more, less, most and least.

In English, we are going to look at the story of Mary Poppins. We are learning about how to write main clauses using capital letters at the beginning of the clause, finger spaces and a full stop at the end. We are also going to use adjectives and noun phrases (black boots) to describe the character of Mary Poppins.

1 Elm PE lessons are on Wednesday and Thursday.

1 Rowan Pe lessons are on Wednesday and Friday.

YEAR 2

In year 2, we are going to be writing main clauses and including some noun phrases. In Maths, we will be adding one digit and two digit numbers using dienes. Our Geography lesson is to identify the continents and in Science we will be learning what animals live in the different habitats. 

YEAR 3

This week in Year 3, we will be looking at addition in maths and learning a new method for adding bigger numbers. In English, we will be starting our new book and reminding ourselves how to use different types of punctuation. Remember to read at home everyday and bring your book in so that we can tick you off towards your goal of a book from our vending machine! 

YEAR 4

In Maths this week, we will be recapping the compact method (Year 3) in addition. 

In English this week, we will be reteaching homophones in particular there, their, they're and also apostrophes for possession. 

YEAR 5

This week in year 5, we will be learning how to edit our work effectively. We will also be continuing our work on descriptive language, writing a setting description. In maths, we will be revising column addition and subtraction, making sure we are confident with 4-digits. In geography, we will be learning about timezones. Finally, in science, we will be learning about the life cycles of insects and birds.

Moving forwards, the children will be using 'Times Tables Rock Stars' to complete their maths homework. A letter with their log-in information will be sent home.

YEAR 6

This week, in science we will be sorting animals by using a classification table, which is known as a Dichotomous Key. In Geography, we will be developing our map reading skills and learning how to use a compass. During English, we will be fine-tuning our year five writing skills.
