GraysGenericNew23

Week Beginning: 4th Decemeber 2023

NURSERY

Let the festive fun begin !! This week in nursery we will be turning our home corner into 'SANTAS WORKSHOP' . It's a great way for the children to explore maths, use everyday language such as size, weight biggest and smallest whilst they are being Santas helpers wrapping up the presents and it will also help with their fine motor skills.

The children will be participating in a winter science experiment, they will be exploring the effects of turning a liquid into a solid then back again when we make our frozen winter wreath.

Our book of the week is 'what the ladybird heard at Christmas'

RECEPTION

As we are fast approaching the festive period, we will be looking at The Christmas  Story as part of our focus. May we please remind you to bring in your child's nativity costume by Wednesday 6th December. Our Elf Day is also Wednesday 6th December, you should have received a letter last week.

In maths we will be looking at the number 10 and compositions to 10.

If you have any questions please see one of the Early Years Team.

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to look at a short video clip of 'Moz the monster'. We are going to describe him using adjectives and noun phrases. We will be putting those noun phrases into main clauses using capital letters, finger spaces and end marks. Some of us will even try and attempt to join two sentences with 'and'. Towards the end of the week, we are going to write a recount of the story.

In Maths, we are going to share objects equally into 2s, 5s and 10s using concrete objects and pictures. We will be looking at scenarios such as: if you had 10 teddy bears and you would like to share it between 2 of your friends, how many would they each get?

YEAR 2

Year 2 will be starting a new book in English, Dougal's deep sea diary! In Maths, we will be learning about halves and quarters. Our History this week will be discussing if Columbus was an explorer or an invader! In Science, we will be continuing to learn about food chains and in RE we will learn about the Jewish festival of Sukkot.

YEAR 3

This week, we will continue learning all about the Egyptians and will be learning all about the afterlife and how they communicated using hieroglyphics. In science we will be investigating shadows and how they are made (so let's hope we have a little bit of sun!). In our english lessons we will be watching a short film clip and using all of the skills we have learnt this term to rewrite the story. As well as all of these wonderful things, we will also be starting to get a little bit christmassy with a few secret projects!

YEAR 4

In Maths this week, we will be recapping on our Geometry knowledge. We will be comparing and grouping different 2D shapes and we will be looking at acute and obtuse angles.

In English this week, we will be recapping on our expanded noun phrase knowledge (adjective, adjective noun), using a picture book only to come up with our own narrative!

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are showcasing our maths learning by completing our NTS tests. We are also looking at angles, drawing and measuring as well as calculating angles on a line. In English, we are using rhetorical questions and revising past tense verbs in our writing around The Barnabus Project and we are incredibly excited about our trip to the theatre.

YEAR 6

This week, we will be writing a letter as Prince Charming where he will be working hard to persuade the ladies of the land NOT to attend the ball his parents are holding for him! In history, we will be looking at the crimes and the punishments during the Victorian period and the impact of the introduction of the police force.
