Week Beginning: 27th November 2023

NURSERY

This week we will be looking at traditional fairytale books, concentrating on "Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs"

This will help develop their listening and language skills and encourage them to ask 'why' questions  Why is one of the dwarfs called happy?

We will be discussing emotions and playing emotion card games to help the children identify and understand their emotions.

In maths we will be concentrating on shapes and also looking at shapes in our environment, both indoors and outdoors.

RECEPTION

In  Reception Class this week, we will be moving onto our new story topic of the Christmas Jolly Postman, This is a great book with an interactive element with cards to read, games to play and letters to write, something that would inspire our children to use their phonic knowledge to write letters to Santa and the characters in the story.

Our focus on maths this week will be the number 9, ordering numbers to 9, writing the number 9 and exploring different compositions of 9. Please ensure that you look at the board outside reception class  and the school website regarding up and coming dates.

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to learn a new skill, how to edit and improve our main clauses (missing punctuation, making the sentence more interesting, etc.) We will also be publishing our writing as well, where we use our neatest handwriting to create a final piece. On Wednesday, it is ‘No Pens Day’, so we will be acting out part of the story, Stick Man. Towards the end of the week, we are going tom write a recount of the story.

In Maths, we are going to use arrays to group objects in 2s, 5s and 10s. An array is a group of things arranged into rows and columns. It is to start understanding multiplication and division.

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are using hyphenated words to create a factfile for our own 'failed' projects based on our class book The Barnabus Project. In maths, we are revising fractions, and place value at the start of every lesson and we will be learning how to complete, read and interpret bar graphs. On Wednesday, it is No Pens Day and we are looking forward to completing some practical activities based on our curriculum.
