Week Beginning: 20th November 2023

NURSERY

This week we will be reading “The Three Billy Goats Gruff” we will be exploring with different materials to make a bridge for the Billy Goats and look at which materials worked best and why. We will also be investigating with magnets with a mixture of materials and learning about cause and affect.

For maths we will be going on a number hunt to support the children’s number recognition starting with 1-5 then extended it to 10.

RECEPTION

The children have enjoyed learning and exploring materials this week with lots of descriptive language.  We shall continue this theme but based around the story of The Elves and the Shoemaker. Children can apply the moral of this story in their real life by understanding the value of being grateful and thankful to others for their help.

In maths we shall be exploring the number 8 and looking at the compositions of 8. We will be using various objects to help us find two parts that make the whole 8 and practising writing the number.

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to read Stickman to get us into the winter/Christmas spirit. We will be using it over two weeks. On the first week, we are going to predict what is going to happen to Stickman away from home. We are going to also write a diary entry using main clauses punctuated correctly to describe what he was used as during his adventure.

In Maths, we are still going to look at number bonds to 10, extending it to 20. We will also be looking at a new strategy- using a number line to add two one digit numbers together within 10 (5+4=) and also crossing 10 (9+6=).

YEAR 2

This week, Year 2 will be writing the diary of Bob,the man on the moon. In Maths, we will be multiplying and dividing using arrays. In Science, we will be learning about food chains. Our History this week is creating a fact file about Amelia Earhart and in RE will be looking at the Torah.

YEAR 3

In Year 3 this week we will be looking at equivalent fractions of numbers and shapes. I’m art we will continue working on our own self portraits using the grid method as support. Within our history topic of the Ancient Egyptians we will look at how mummies are made! Please remember to sign your child’s reading record every day. Spelling tests and times tables tests are on Mondays so please encourage your child to practice then at home. 

YEAR 4

This week in Maths, we will be focusing on fractions. This will include finding fractions of amounts and looking at equivalent fractions.

This week in English, we will be continuing to focus on writing direct speech and the punctuation needed. 

YEAR 5

This week, we are revisiting apostrophes in English. In maths, we will be calculating perimeter and area. In History, we will be learning about primary and secondary sources to decide if the resources we have of ancient Maya civilisation are useful or not. In science, we will be investigating how the shape of an object affects air resistance.

YEAR 6

In year six, we will be investigating how light travels and how to make more than one shadow. We will have to plan our investigations, decide on how to make it a fair test and write a prediction. In English, we will be continuing our understanding of writing in the passive and active voice.
