Week Beginning: 13th November 2023

NURSERY

This week our topic is London, we will be discussing different ways to travel around London I.e Bus ,Train Walking or RiverBoat.

We will be looking at different buildings in London , looking at their shape size and age, some of the children have already shown an interest in Big Ben when we read a story about “Guy Fawkes”  why not see if your child remembers if it’s the clock or bell that is named “Big Ben”

Our book of the week is “Naughty Bus”.

RECEPTION

In reception this week we shall be continuing our topic on materials but have a spin on our story in order to help the children to see things from another perspective  "The 3 wolves and the big bad pig". In our maths we shall be exploring the number 7 and talking about what we know in full sentences. e.g " I know that 3 apples and 4 bananas is 7 fruits all together.

YEAR 1

In English, we are still using the book 'Traction Man is here'. We are going to role play part of the story to help us understand the feelings and emotions of the character. We are going to plan and write a recount using main clauses at the end of the week.

In Maths, we are going to look at number bonds within 10 and number bonds to 10 using ten frames and counters. We are also going to start adding a one digit number to a one digit number using manipulatives.

YEAR 2

In year 2 we will be starting a new book called 'Man on the moon'. In Maths, we are learning how to use the expanded column method to add and subtract. Our Science lessons this week we will be looking at herbivores and omnivores. In History, we will be learning about the achievements of Amelia Earhart. 

YEAR 3

In Maths, Year 3 will be learning about fractions.

In English, we will be consolidating our work on conjunctions and time adverbials by writing diary entries.

YEAR 4

This week in English, we will be writing our own conversation, using inverted commas.

This week in Maths, we will be writing and drawing the time for analogue and digital. 

YEAR 5

This week in maths, we will be consolidating our knowledge of mixed and improper fractions. In English, we will be exploring the features of a diary and how to transition between paragraphs when writing one. In history, we are looking at the landscapes that the Maya city-states were built on. Finally, in science, we will be investigating how different surfaces impact friction, using Newton metres.

YEAR 6

This week in year six, we will be learning about perspective drawing and how light sources have an impact on our sketches. In RE, we will be learning more about the Buddist religion. Throughout our writing lessons, we will continue to develop our understanding of the impact of different punctuation within a sentence.
