Week Beginning: 4th January 2024

NURSERY

Welcome back, we hope you all had a great Christmas and new year. 

This week we will be revisiting our phonic sounds that we have been working on last term and also doing dough gym to help develop muscles in the hand for fine motor skills.

In maths we will be covering number recognition 1-10  and pattern matching.

RECEPTION

Welcome back, we hope you have enjoyed your Christmas and New Year with your families. In Reception Class we shall begin our day drawing and using our phonic knowledge and  write about what we did over the festive period.  

This will then lead us into our new topic of light and dark.  May we please ask you for any small boxes which we shall be using as a project a little later on. In Maths we shall be revisiting numbers to 10, ordering them and looking at compositions to 10. 

YEAR 1

Welcome back in the Spring 1 Term!

In English, we are going to use a winter picture prompt to describe the image. We will also be writing main clauses punctuated correctly and even extending them with conjunctions, such as and, because about this image.

In Maths, we are going to count in 2s, 5s and 10s. We will be looking at missing number lines and we will be applying this skill to solve word problems.

YEAR 2

Year 2 will be starting a new book called Wombat goes Walkabout in English. In Maths we will be comparing and ordering numbers. We will be doing our start of topic quizzes in Geography and Science and we will be starting our Art topic.

YEAR 3

Welcome back Year 3! We hope you have had a lovely Christmas break and are ready for the New Year. This week we will be starting our new topic of Rocks and Soils and will be visiting the wild life area to investigate what makes up soil. In Geography our topic is 'Where Would you rather live?' Don't forget our PE days this term are Wednesday and Thursday so please wear your PE kit on those days. 

YEAR 4

Welcome Back Year 4 - we hope you had a restful break with your families!

This week in English, we will  be using our Zones of Regulations to look and compare feelings, using a picture stimulus.

This week in Maths, we will be rounding to the nearest whole number and also rounding to the nearest decimal point too! 

Reminders - PE is still on a Thursday (indoor) and Friday (outdoor).

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are fine tuning our understanding of place value with numbers with three decimal places and we will be rounding to the nearest tenth, hundredth and whole number as well as ordering and comparing numbers. In English, we are writing clauses using a variety of punctuation. We are looking forward to starting our new topics: Changes of materials in science and countries of North America in geography. 

YEAR 6

This term in science, we will be investigating electric circuits and the key components. In Geography, we will begin our journey around the continent of South America. In English, we will be using descriptive language to describe settings.
