RECEPTION

Thank you for all dressing up on Friday, you all looked amazing! This week we are learning about ourselves and the human body. We will be talking about why our body is important and how to look after ourselves. As we have now completed all phase 2 and 3 sounds we are going to recap and encourage all children to recognise diagraphs and triagraphs when blending words. In maths we are moving on to understand the concept of time and how to measure short periods of time. For example how many jumps can you do before the 1 minute timer runs out. Thursday is WELLBEING DAY and we are going to be doing lots of activities with the children to promote kindness and how to be a kind person.

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to finish our class book, 'The Lonely Beast' writing main clauses about the beasts having a party.

In Maths, we are going to recognise that half is one of two equal parts. We are also going to find half of objects and amounts.

YEAR 2

This week in Maths, we will be multiplying and dividing using our 2,10 5 and 3 times tables knowledge. The method we will be using is bar model. We will be having a focus on word problems so the children can write the number sentence, identify whether the word problem is multiplying/ dividing and explaining how they know this.

This week in English, we will be writing diary entries in role as a character - Princess Elizabeth, Prince Ronal or the dragon based on our book the Paperbag Princess. Our focus for this week will be conjunctions- but, when, if, or, that.

YEAR 3

Maths: We are continuing with calculation this week but moving onto multiplication and division. We will be revisiting the grid method to multiply and learning the chunking method for division.

English: This week, we are still learning how to use inverted commas to mark direct speech, but we will be applying the skills we have learnt in longer pieces of writing. Our Book is Wisp, which we introduced on World Book Day last week. As it is such a lovely text, we will also be doing some work on description.

History: We have analysed sources of information about Henry VIII and now we are learning about his 6 wives; who they were and what happened to them.

YEAR 4

In English this week we will be looking at way to improve our descriptive writing and linking our reading focus with our Big Read Lesson on Monday.

Maths will be focussing on measurement and learning to tell the time accurately.

Please help your children by asking them the analogue and digital times on the clocks you have around home at different points in the day.

We encourage children to read for at least 10 minutes a day at home and ask parents to listen to their children at least once a week. This will have a positive impact on both their confidence and writing skills.

Wellbeing Day will be Thursday 12th March 2020. Children are allowed to wear comfy bottoms with their school uniform tops.

YEAR 5

English: We are continuing our work on street child. We will be thinking about the emotions of the different characters. We will be using this to help us write a diary entry and a letter.

Maths: We will be revisiting fractions. The children will be looking at adding, subtracting and multiplying. We will also look at percentage of amounts.

YEAR 6

This week in Year 6, we will be continuing writing around our world book day story, Wisp. In science, we will be carrying out an investigation to find the relationship between fitness and our heart rates.
