Graysgeneric

Week Beginning: 5th June 2023

NURSERY

We hope you had a great half term with your families and looking forward to hearing all about it.

Our new story topic is based on a story called The Rainbow Fish. The story can be used to spark meaningful discussion about the benefits of sharing.

The children will be exploring what lives under the sea and using craft activities to demonstrate this.

Please see the board outside our nursery for further updates.

RECEPTION

Welcome back to what is going to be a very busy half term! We are starting the term off with a new topic looking at life in this country and comparing it to life in other countries. We are excited to be keeping our ducklings and are going to develop a lovely area for them to live in. In Maths we are going to revisit our number bonds to 5 and 10.

On Friday 16th June we are having our 'Pirate Dress Up Day' as our WOW experience to launch our new topic the following week - more details on this to follow this week, so look out for the letter!

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to look at a new story 'The Paperbag Princess. We will be using noun phrases and adjectives to describe the characters. We will be writing main clauses extended with conjunctions (and, because) to give some tips to the Princess how to save her Prince Charming from the dragon.

In Maths, we are going to represent numbers to 100 using manipulatives like Dienes and Numicon. Towards the end of the week, we are going to order and compare numbers to 100.

YEAR 2

Year 2 will be focusing on our writing this week. We will be visiting the wildlife area and writing about our time there. We will be creating our own still life drawings in the afternoon using the skills we have learnt previously this year.

YEAR 3

Welcome back Year 3! We have a jam packed term ahead and it's going to be a good one! In maths, we will be recapping everything we've learnt for place value this year. In English, we will be continuing our brilliant book 'Space Band' and looking at the settings within the book. Our new topics in curriculum are Magnetic Forces and The Tudors!

YEAR 4

Welcome back and hope you had a restful break. This week in English, Year 4 will be using different conjunctions in our writing.  We will be discussing and writing about different emotions.  In Maths, we will be practising our Times Tables, ordering decimals and halving odd numbers.  We will be starting our new History topic on the Stuarts.  In science, we will be learning about sound.  PE will be Wednesday (indoors) and Friday (outdoors).

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are applying our knowledge of place value in maths, rounding decimals to whole numbers as well as larger numbers to the nearest 1,000, 10,000 and 100,000. In English, we will be researching, writing and publishing a non-fiction text about the subject of our choice. We are looking forward to our class trip on Wednesday where we will be introducing our new science topic, Earth and Space.

Please note, one of our PE days has changed. Indoor PE will now be on Monday and outdoor PE remains the same on Tuesday.

YEAR 6

This week, we will be our geography topic on exploring the different types of Rainforest. In art, we will be looking at different techniques used by artists and trying to mirror these.
