This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 19th June

Week Beginning: 19th June 2023

NURSERY

This week we will be looking at our new story of Elmer the Elephant, We will be talking about friendship groups and what makes us feel happy and safe.

Children will be exploring patterns and using new vocabulary to describe things.

Please see the board outside the nursery for further updates.

RECEPTION

This week in Reception the children are starting a new topic called 'Under the Sea'. Following on from our fantastic Pirate 'WOW' Day last Friday, the children are going to write about their life on a pirate ship! They will be writing lists of the things a pirate ship needs and then writing their own story about what happens onboard their pirate ship. In Maths, the children will be revisiting 2D and 3D shape.

YEAR 1

This week, it is a week of exploring the Roma, Gypsy and Traveller communities. Linked to this, in English, we are going to look at the book of Polonius the Pit Pony. We are going to describe the setting of the story using noun phrases. Towards the end of the week, we are going to write a recount of the story.

In Maths, we are going to consolidate grouping, sharing and arrays.

YEAR 2

Year 2 are going to be starting a new book in English called 'The lost homework'. We will be using the Bar model to multiply and divide in Maths. In RE we are learning about Christian birth ceremonies and in Science we will be learning what we need to survive.  

YEAR 3

This week in Year 3 we will continue our Tudors theme looking at the 6 wives of Henry VIII. We will also be looking at his children and how they become part of the monarchy as well as their influence. In Science the children will be looking at how magnets are able to move objects through different surfaces. In Maths we will continue our work on fractions, specifically fractions of amounts. In English we are recapping our fronted adverbial skills.

YEAR 4

In Maths this week, we will be converting analogue and digital time. We will also be practising interpreting timetables and unpicking questions to answer. 

In English this week, we will be learning about GRT (Gypsy, Roma and Traveller) Month.

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we will be continuing with our work on calculations in maths, with a focus on time. In English, we will be looking at poetic language before creating our own. In science, we will be continuing to learn in-depth facts about our solar planet. In history, we will be learning about all the inventions that were created in the Victorian period!

YEAR 6

This week, We will be looking at text from different character's viewpoints and continuing to show empathy.  In geography, we will be identifying the different layers of the rainforest. During Art, we will be looking at the style of the artist Chris Ellis.Finally, we will be practising how to name different modes of transport in French.
