Week Beginning: 3rd July 2023

NURSERY

Over the coming weeks we will be getting the children ready for their transition into Reception class. Children will be visiting their new class and spending  time with their teacher and TA .

There is a list of  upcoming dates on the board outside the nursery.

Don't forget Nursery Sports Day is Wednesday 5th July, so dust off your trainers.

RECEPTION

This week in Reception the children are on the final week of their project around the theme of 'Under the Sea' and they will be finding out all about the adventures of Dougal the Deep Sea Diver! In Maths, the children will be continuing to learn about making 'lots of' or 'groups of' a number using objects to help them, then they will be having a go at recording what they have done using their own representations.

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to write a non-fiction information leaflet about owls. We will be watching a short video telling us all about owls. We will then sort these facts into 4 different categories. Towards the end of the week, we will be writing up the facts using subheadings.

In Maths, we are going to look at fractions, so we will find half and quarter of shapes and amounts.

YEAR 2

Year 2 are going to write instructions on how to trap their dragon, in English In Maths, we will be identifying the operations in word problems.  In History we will be learning about royal palaces and in RE we are learning about the Jewish birth ceremony.

YEAR 3

This week in year 3 we will be continuing our topic of the Tudors which we are really enjoying! In science we will be experimenting with magnets and investigating what objects are magnetic and which are not. In maths we will be looking at division and practicing using our key facts to work out tricky division problems.

YEAR 4

In English this week, we will be looking at using powerful language to write setting descriptions.

In Maths this week, we will be collecting our own data and representing that data to construct our own statistics.

YEAR 5

This week, we will be starting a new piece of work, based on the short film 'Alma'. As we are coming to the end of Year 5, we will be focusing on writing atmospheric texts by including information about our five senses. In maths, we are revising multiplying fractions and finding percentages of amounts. In science, we are learning about the Earth's rotation to explain day and night.

YEAR 6

This week, in year six, most of the children will be attending their secondary schools for their transition day (or two) which is very exciting. Throughout the week, we will be continuing our maths and English, in which we will be writing a letter of complaint.

The rehearsals for our production are going well and we will be having our first full 'run through' on Monday. I know many of you have been asking the start times of the actual performances, which will be on Wednesday 12th July at approximately 2pm and 6pm. Ticket information will follow. The costumes are very simple, with most children just needing to wear their school uniforms. For those needing something different, we have already told the children what they will need.
