Week Beginning: 7th February 2022

NURSERY

This week, we shall move onto the role of the police officer.

We will be  exploring what they do within the community and how they keep us safe.

We will be using our investigation skills to find fingerprints  to solve clues and find suspects relating to our World book day theme, ( watch  this space).

Towards the end of the week, we move onto how we keep ourselves safe when crossing the road.

RECEPTION

In Reception this week the children will be starting a new topic all about dinosaurs! They will be finding out about the different types of dinosaurs and learning some of their long names. They will be finding out facts that interest them and sharing them with their friends - they will be dinosaur detectives!  In Maths, the children will be looking at subtraction and using their number knowledge about addition facts to help them solve subtraction problems.

YEAR 1

In English, we are going to start reading a new book, The Lonely Beast. We are going to look at time adverbials (first, next, then, after that) to sequence our writing. Towards the end of the week, we are going to write main clauses recounting the journey of the Beast.

In Maths, we are going to find half of physical objects and shapes deciding if they can be halved or not. We will discuss what half and whole mean. Towards the end of the week, we are also going to find half of an amount.

YEAR 2

This week in English, we will be focusing on our +ed spelling rules. We will be reading the 'Enormous Turnip' story. The children are incredible at telling us the rules for +ed but we need more practice when applying our +ed spelling rule.

This week in Maths, we will be adding and subtracting. We will be recapping and focusing on our expanded column method. We will also be moving onto bridging (into the next 10).

Reminder: Friday 11th March is Gray's Farm World Book Day - we are looking forward to seeing all your wonderful, creative costumes!

YEAR 3

his week, year 3 will continue to work on their speech punctuation skills using a variety of text types. The children have had a lot of fun this week, acting out discussions in order to identify what direct speech is.

In Maths, they will be revisiting division, using the chunking method. They will also be revisiting Multiplication and refining their times tables knowledge in order to help them understand the wider maths curriculum.

Please practice timetables with your child at every opportunity. They can access the Maths frame website and take a 3 minute challenge to see how they are doing here:  https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/477/Multiplication-Tables-Check

YEAR 4

This week in English, Year 4 will be working on tenses and linking our writing to our History topic.  In Maths, we will be converting between different units of measure and calculating the perimeter of rectilinear shapes.

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we will be adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators and comparing fractions to percentages in maths. In English we are continuing our work around our new class book, 'Anglo Saxon Boy' and will be using semicolons in our writing. In History we are looking more in depth at Anglo Saxon life, their settlements and hierarchy and in science we will be focusing on the key stages of a baby and toddler's development.

YEAR 6

This week in year six, we will be completing our mock SATs week. We have our reading test Monday, Maths on Tuesday and Thursday and our SPaG paper on Wednesday. We know all of the children will be amazing and will absolutely shine.
