This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 28/06

Week Beginning: 28 June 2021

We shall continue our themes of "under the water". The children will categorise sea creatures based on colour shape and size and use their counting skills to count forward and backwards. Through our music and  movement  sessions we will  learn how different creatures move. Please check the board outside the nursery gate for more updates.

This week in Reception we are beginning our new topic ‘Castles and Knights’. We will be reading the story ‘Billy and the Dragon’. We will be designing our own dragons and describing them as well as drawing story maps. We will also be using characters to retell our own stories and write them. In Maths we are exploring doubling and halving facts and learning to recall them.

In Maths the children will be consolidating their knowledge on finding halves and quarters of shapes and groups of objects.

In English they will be looking at fairy tale story openers such as 'Once upon a time', 'In a land far, far away'.

Maths: We are revisiting multiplication and division with and without remainders. We will be working mentally or using the bar model.

Writing: We are writing our own stories based on 'There's no Dragon in this Story'. We will be showing off all of the skills we have used in Year 2 so far.

Remember PE kits on Wednesday and Friday.

Homework will be set on Thursday and due on the following Wednesday.

This week we are working on:

In maths, converting between units of measure, measuring and working out the perimeter of a 2d shape.

In English, we are working on persuasive writing.

This week in Maths, Year 4 will be calculating with fractions, calculating quantities of amounts (including money) and working on area and perimeter.  In English, we will be practising writing at length to engage the reader, using the skills we have learned this year.  In science, Year 4 will be continuing their investigations into solids, liquids and gases.

This week, we will be learning what life was like as a suffragette and how different parties fought for women’s rights. In science, we will be learning about the amazing work carried out by Daniel Hale William.

As well as all this, we will be doing our last minute revision before our SATs week.
