Our next topic is "Autumn" we will be looking at the changes in our outdoor environment,  colour changing of the trees and plants.

In maths we will be concentrating on number recognition 1-5  and incorporating numbers into our everyday activities.

The children are doing amazing with their phonic sounds so we will continue to practice these.

Our book for the week is "Hello Autum" which  also covers social and emotional development.

RECEPTION

Welcome back, we hope you had a restful two weeks and are ready for another busy and exciting half term.

In Reception we will be celebrating Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Light, children will be looking at how it is celebrated and the meaning behind it.

We hope you have found the Read Write Inc QR codes useful and children will  be coming home with homework/reading books very soon. If you have any further questions please see one of the Early Years Team at the gate in the morning or pick up times.

YEAR 1

Welcome back, we hope you have had a good half term!

In English, we are going to look at a new book called 'Dogger' linked to our History topic-Toys in the past and present. We are continuously working on our main clauses and how to use noun phrases (fluffy dog) in them to make them more interesting. We are going to use the first person to write a diary entry towards the end of the week.

In Maths, we are going to look at place value, how many tens and ones a number has up to 50. We are going to use manipulatives (Dienes) to recognise how many tens and ones each number has. At the end of the week, we are going to compare numbers using the vocabulary more and less.

Could we also ask the children to bring in one their favourite toys/teddies to share on the week beginning 6th November 2023? They will talk about why they like them, what they are made of, what they do and how they make them feel. Could we ask you to send them in a named plastic bag?

YEAR 2

Year 2 are going to be continuing the writing about our book 'Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn'.  In Maths, we will be revisiting place value. Our Science topic is learning about living things and in History we will be starting to learn about significant people.

YEAR 3

Welcome back! This half term is jam packed with lots of exciting things. In maths, we will be learning to tell the time to the nearest minute and record our answers in words. For example, 'twenty to four'. In English, we will be reading a book all about a sneaky fox and looking at adding fronted adverbials to our writing. After parents evening we also just wanted to clarify that children do not need to read their books 5 times. If your child has read their book and they are happy that they've understood it, they are now allowed to take a quiz straight away. They do not need to reread the text. Finally, in Science we will be beginning our new topic 'Light and Shadow'. We would really appreciate it if you could send your child to school with a cardboard box, for example a cereal box or shoe box as we will be doing a fun experiment in the first week.

YEAR 4

Welcome back! We hope you all had a restful break.

This week in Maths, we will be focusing on our place value knowledge from our end of term assessments. This will be including rounding to the nearest 10 and 100 and multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100, including decimals as the answer!

This week in English, we will be writing a diary entry in role. Our skill focus for the week will be fronted adverbials.

Reminder: PE Days will be staying the same as Autumn 1. Swimming will still be on a Thursday morning and Outdoor PE with Mr Morris will now be on a Friday afternoon.

YEAR 5

Welcome back to Autumn 2! This week, we will be revising our use of tense in English while improving our editing skills. In maths, we will be focusing on place value again. In history, we are beginning our new topic on the Maya by exploring a variety of artefacts. Can the children deduce what these ancient objects were used for? We are also starting a new topic in science; the children will be learning about forces such as gravity, air resistance, water resistance and friction.

YEAR 6

This week, we will be having a RE visitor to talk to us about Buddhism. In English, we will be working on recognising how to use commas to mark clauses. This term, we have an exciting topic in History, where we learn about some of the crimes that have been committed since the Roman period and the horrific punishments that were given.
