This week at Gray's Farm - W/B 24/01

Week Beginning: 24th January 2021

We have now settled our new nursery children and are pleased with how our older children have welcomed them.

We shall continue our story topic of Peters Pebbles and how each animal in the story plays an important part. Please bring a pebble by Thursday 27th January, so the children can paint their own animal pebble.

We are integrating numbers into real life routines, 3 cups for 3 children and the relationship between number and quantity.

Please check out the board outside the nursery for daily updates.

In Reception this week we will be sharing the story 'Aliens Love Smelly Jelly' and making up our own alien food menu by changing sounds in words to sound like alien words. We will also be drawing illustrations of the alien foods. We will be making our own alien recipes in the outdoor area. In Maths, we will be looking at finding 1 less than a given number.

This week, in English we will be exploring Katie Morag and the island she lives on. We will be writing facts, sorting facts and writing our very own fact file all about Katie Morag. We will also look at the similarities and differences of where we live and where Katie lives. In Maths, we will be exploring length and measure using non standard measurements, we will then move onto capacity and volume.

In Maths this week, we will be focusing on money. We will be exploring different ways to make the same amount with our peers, we will be adding and subtracting using money and we will be finding change.

In English this week, we will be starting a new book linked to our Art and Geography topic called 'Rainbow Bird'. We will be focusing on joining 2 clauses with the conjunction 'or'. For example: Miss Wallington could eat a whole cake or she could go to the gym.

In maths this week we will be multiplying and dividing numbers by 10. We will also be starting to use the grid method when multiplying. In Science we will be looking at whether the size of our shadow changes at different times of the day.

This week Year 4 we will be working on:

In English, using possessive apostrophe accurately and adding modified expanded noun phrases to our writing.

In Maths, recognise and show using diagrams families of common equivalent fractions, solve problems using fractions of amounts and solve simple money and measure problems involving fractions.

This week in Year 5, we are learning to find the least common denominator in maths. We will be using speech punctuation and speech verbs in our writing in English. Continuing with our geography topic - Where would you rather live? - we will be learning about Cuba, their culture, their country and their biomes.

In Year Six, we will be researching Ecuador and what life is like there. We will be continuing our work in science on how we see things.

In English, we will be continuing our story on The Red Tree and looking at different ways to empathise with a character.
