Week Beginning: 26th February 2024

NURSERY

This week in Nursery our topic will be "Climate Change and Pollution."  

The children will be exploring with ice cubes and the Arctic animals and looking at the cause and effect of the ice cubes melting. 2023 was the warmest summer recorded in the Arctic.

The children will be encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to look at ways we can recycle and also develop their problem-solving skills by looking at everyday objects to see if they can reduce,reuse or recycle them.

One of our books for the week will be   "A Climate Chaos" and in maths we will be looking for patterns in our natural environment.

RECEPTION

This week we shall be continuing our topic on dinosaurs with more emphasis placed on how the dinosaurs became extinct. Children will be involved in some volcano experiments using vinegar, baking soda  and red food colouring to imitate the movement of lava.

In maths our focus will be adding  numbers, counting on from the first group.

Please ensure you continue reading with your child every day. 

YEAR 1

In English, Year 1 will be reading the book "The Lonely Beast".  The children will be writing main clauses, including adjectives and nouns, to write a prediction and a wanted poster.  We will be introducing the use of the question mark.  In Maths, the children will be using addition and subtraction operations to solve worded problems.  Just a gentle reminder can we please remember to sign the reading records and bring them to school every day.  Thank you. 

YEAR 2

Year 2 are going to be continuing to write about the book Leon and the Place Between. In Maths, we will be adding and subtracting using bridging. In Science we will be learning the parts of a plant. In History, we will be looking at hospitals of the past and in RE we will be learning the story of Bilal.

YEAR 3

In Year 3 this week we will be continuing with our book The Piano and the Bear and we will find out what MR Bear decided to do. In maths, we will be adding and subtracting money. 

YEAR 4

This week in English, we will be identifying features of a newspaper report before writing our own newspaper report. 

This week in Maths, we will be recapping on our calculation knowledge.

YEAR 5

This week in Year 5, we are revising our calculation skills by revisiting addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In English, we will be learning how to write atmospheric texts by looking at fronted adverbials and emotive language. In history, we are learning about the Picts and Scots while, in science, we are identifying the different properties of materials. 

YEAR 6

This week in year six, we will be writing a section of a narrative based on our text - Francis. We will be considering our vocabulary choice and varying our sentence structure, to create maximum impact for our reader. We will be analysing how a character's actions change throughout a story. In science, we are looking at how animals, such as camels and polar bears have adapted to the environments they live in.
